Interesting ideas there, but I fear they don't make much sense.

It's the nature of business to buy at a low price and sell at the highest price the market will stand - the law of supply and demand. What people are prepared to pay is the market value for that purchase.

Expertise is gained by working with a product on a regular basis and knowing how it works, isn't it? Otherwise how could anyone pass themselves off as a specialist anything?

Companies always use 'special' features as a marketing ploy, so what's the issue? Apple don'r sell their kit on the back of a the fact that you can't replace the batteries, Ferrari don't market their cars by telling people the extortionate cost of servicing.

Maybe you should give car dealing a go, but based on your philosophy - buy chaep and sell just as cheap. I'd be interested to see how you go.

Before anyone asks, no, I don't deal in anything... well, maybe some things, but I don't sell anything

Thanks for all the different views and kind remarks, well almost.

you cant buy high spec ZT 260s that cheap now as they have got down to a value now that some people will just keep them if they are worth £6/7k. valued one last month and the chap still wanted £10k for it so is probably going to keep it as for the last but one comment, i think you are after something for nothing and will never pay what something is worth which is probably why you are still looking for a 260 bargain. we are the leading used expert as we have sold the most used ZT 260s in the UK !! a fair title i think, actually suggested by 2 x 260 owners who bought from us.

Do you service and repair them yourself?

Have you ever done a clutch, or fitted a supercharger?

The thread started with a car for sale and has slightly deviated since then.

£9,000 is a fair amount of money and without knowing the initial price it's difficult to say whether it's overpriced or not.
Taken into account it comes with 12 months warranty and keeping the usual markup in mind the margin may not be as big as people think.
Also the sale is not a desperate one and the price may reflect that as well.
It is a nice low mileage example in a monogram colour. The colour may not be to everyones liking but was a paid option over regular colours.

I can't comment on the servicing abilities from James but can't see how this is relevant with regards to the mentioned sale, nor is the ability to fit a super charger.

As Elite has sold more than their fair share of 260's I think it's a correct to claim they are experts in this area (used 260's) whereas other dealers may only come across the car once or twice.

It would be nice to keep the thread on track and comment on the car rather than getting personal with the seller in question

£9k - Supply and demand. If its expensive in your mind then its not for you. Sounds about right for the car to me. Dealer, warranty, spec, colour, mileage, rarity, etc. I would suggest T16 goes and buys the same car SO much cheaper as he believes and puts it on for £8k making himself loads of cash BUT BUT BUT he wont find one! THAT'S WHY ITS £9K. We will soon see if its expensive on not "in the market place" by way of it being sold or still with him at the end of 2012??? I'll bet that as soon as the warmer weather arrives it will get sold in and around the asking price.

On another note - The more money they sell for, the higher the value of our cars go...............! Who's complaining?

I wouldn't be surprised if there is some polarization in prices of 260s.
By this I mean some of the more desirable examples (very low mileage, rare colours or specifications)appreciate in value, simply because they are difficult to find and few and far between, whereas it's still quite easy
to find a dozen or more 260s for sale with average mileages or popular colours,so there's still plenty of supply of 260s if you're not too fussed about the mileage or you want a more common colour so prices of these may continue to slide.

I'll declare my hand straight away-I'M A DEALER-MG DEALER and I've also bought and sold several MG ZT 260's (probably a dozen or more now!). I (like anyone on this earth!) goes to work to earn a living. As for ZT 260's (or any other car, for that matter) the idea is to buy as keenly as you can (remember, if you offer too little, someone else may offer more!) and to sell for as much as you realistically can (remember, if you price too high, then you might never sell!). As for colours, it's all down to the buyer, but my experience is that the rarer and more desireable monogram colours do fetch more money and always will! Most body repairs are down to insurance and they don't seem to add a premium to insure monogram cars. T16-if you don't like "precious metal's" price, then simples, find and buy a cheaper one elsewhere!

I might come and have a look at this James. I've been looking for X-Power exhausts for a year without any luck and I've come to the conclusion if I really want them, I'm going to have to buy another 260 which already has them. On top of that, I came across your website earlier in the week when looking at Monaros for sale (the red one caught my eye), so two reasons to pay you a visit. I'll get in touch when I'm next in the area.
