Default Coil pack going after 33k miles?

I'm looking at a car on autotrader (of the 4 its the one with black wheels), been conversing with the guy for a few weeks, he's just had it back from his mechanic after a service, and he's found that the engine is misfiring, diagnosed as a coil pack failure.

The car has supposedly done 33,000 miles from new, and this seems like rather low miles for a coil pack to go to me.

Is this an indication of some serious engine abuse?

Nope, coil packs seem to have a life of their own. If you do buy the car a few of us have spares you can buy. Mine only have 17k on them.

Not necessarily. Coil packs can fail and the Ford ones aren't the best anyway. Combined with the high temps under the bonnet it could very well happen

Ah, Thanks. The car was used in Spain a lot by its previous owner apparently, if its to do with heat I can very much imagine this contributing too. Just thought it sounded dodgy.

He's getting it sorted by a specialist now, the seller says. Rather that than have me look at it and there be something amiss.

Btw mate, if you're keeping track, it's basically between this one and the one up in Scotland for me, either a 4 hour drive over to Cambridgeshire or a flight to Aberdeen to consider.

If it is to be the one in Scotland you can drop in at Brian on the way back and get the S/C. That way you can get back to Wales in about 3 hours (plus a week for the install)

Standard ones are 20-30 and easy to fit, depending on which one has gone, some are easier than others...
