    Post Wheel refurb options

Hi I have just joined as I like big engine cars & have been thinking of upgrading my much modded 3 litre Cavalier. Having driven MG's before & owning an MGC would like to get a 260 SE.

When looking at one this week I was told about the chrome wearing off the black backing on the wheels, Could anyone tell me the best options for refurbing the wheels & what finish looks best, thanks.

    Hi Graham and welcome.

Good luck in your hunt for a 260!

I am guessing that you are reffering to the "Shodowchrome" Apex Wheels that were fitted to the "SE" models?

I think there are many places that could refurb them. Some are better than others. It's on the list to do one day, and I would get them done in the origional colour again. (they were refurbed just before I bought mine, but are too light in colour and the job done was not that great)

The finish itself is not the problem, it is the MG Rover quality of finish that proved the challenge.

As Colintf says there are numerous places that can do it, getting a match is the tougher bit

I used The Wheel Specialist in Fareham - very good service but not perfect colour match

Rimstock (I think) have been good on colour but not the cheapest

Rimstock did mine. A good job - if a little slow.

yes very little paint applied. mine were mint when fitted and despite not being used on salted roads are getting full of the little corrosion worm tracks particularly around the valves on the front tyres. if you are looking, its worth factoring a refurb into the price.

oh and welcome, sorry, you will never look back if you take the plunge.

Thanks for the info, Yes they are the shadowchrome wheels. I've had a look at the Rimstock web site, not sure how the logistics of getting them to the midlands works but I'll give them a ring tomorrow. I would like to keep them looking as close to the original as possible. It was a nice looking car, but the wheels need to be right.

On the bottom right of each post are 4 buttons - the right most one of which, will, when pressed, allow you to enter text in the quick reply box

    Colin,

By "it is the MG Rover quality of finish" I take it you mean that they accepted the crappy Italian produced rubbish instead of seeking quality elsewhere?

I've never had any Apex's refurbished but I've had to buy three new as the world beating road standard of the UK has ensured buckiling.

The poster should go to Lepson's in the Medway area if he wants the best.

    regards,

    Kev

Give Rimstock the address and they arrange collection & delivery.
