    Default coats of paint

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the official factory stance was on the amount of paint applied i.e. number of coats of paint and laquer?

    regards,

Seems to have been very little in my case - never been very impressed with the paint job. Mind you, mine was one of the later ones, so they had probably almosr run out by then...

Very variable on my old Typhoon ZTT 190 there was a fair old thickness as it had a couple of really nasty but ver deep paint chips on the wing when I first got it.

Elsewhere such as on the roof it was lot thinner. A decent paint specialist or polisher can measure the thickness for you.

    Default coats of paint

Thanks for the replies - I'm told by a repairer In Luton (Newbourne) that it is usually one coat, two for certain colours/finishes like red.

I understand with the Rolls they put on a coat of colour, then loads of laquer.

    Andy,

Appears work practices have changed a little as it used to be 14 coats of cellulose and a couple of laquer.

I had chips away visit a few years ago to touch up a very large stone chip, he fannied about on his mixing computer and when he finally applied his paint it was miles out, in the end I did it with the factory touch up after building it up and Tcutting back , he did however comment on the thickness of paint and commented on the quality of finish which was in his opinion better than the latest German offerings

To be fair, everyone says that the water based pigment paint is much, much better than cellulose and consensus appears to be that one coat is usually enough :-) I don't know what the effect would be with multiple coats, but I will eventually as I am going to ask for someone to spray small squares of metal, incrementing by one coat.

    thanks,

    Kev

water base paint is awful to live with once on the car - you only have to look at it and it chips
