    I recall Rincewind posted that when MGR were testing they felt that they could go a lot longer than 5,000 mile changes, but Ford were having none of it!

    Can't recall how far they were willing to take it.

    The current owner could have done his own oil changes of course, so it might not be as 'bad' as you are thinking...

    I also think 5k change is over the top. My car has 103k on the clock now, and I tend to do a change every 7.5k miles so cut out one oil change in 15k miles. As others have said, if the oil used was high quality synthetic I wouldnt worry too much about it. If it had been before the 1st change that might be a different matter, but as it was later after decent running in I would think its OK. Mine, after 7k or so, comes out looking as clean as new even at this mileage.

    As the engine has had its first(important oil change) then I would not worry as long as it has the correct synthetic oil put in. Give it a good run and then oil/filter change, it will be ok. Enjoy the car. I would also change the diff oil.
