Take engine out, dunk in some acid or something else corrosive. Use high pressure water to clean off acid and dirt. Put back in. 5 minute job.
At least my engine bay is uniform in colour. That being 'dirt'... haha. No, apart from some water marks, the engine bay is pretty clean thanks to the undertray.

Thought that, the front top bonnet locking plate/hanger in the MGOC article could have done with a clean.
