I bought a Fiesta-02 a month ago for smaller arrends and as winter car. It runs pretty good, it even got AC.

But I had to put some descent alloys on, 13" is to small!

ZR TD 115 you get ok performance (not slow), good economy and they are cheap. My mates had one from new, now 6 years old and he is not thinking of changing it yet. It has had little go wrong (temperature sensor) and has just needed a new (powerflow) back box and a few brake light bulbs. Looks very nice in ignition blue.

Why not do what a good number of us have done get a ZT/75 cdti Colin.

The perfect combo I'd suggest. If you want to borrow mine for an hour or so, come on over.

75/ZT diesel would be good but hold values well.

If want more mpg and spend less then theres ZR/ZS 115td's

The ride on the ZS diesel is a lot harder than the 260 though

c1/107/aygo. It offensive how cheap those things are to run. Hold value becuase of that though.

Get an old rover 418 or something, the ones with the 'honda' deseal. Probably get a decent one for a couple of hundred and it would make the 260 feel EPIC after a weeks driving. haha

    Don't crash it.

Seriously though, I think you would struggle to run a cheaper car than a KA, They are ultra simple and very reliable.

I have a Fiesta Sport van and love it.

I recommend the car version 1.6TDCi bluefin it nippy and economical. I get 60mpg and it keeps up with a lot of potent cars. Road tax for the car is £35 going down to £30 and can be picked up under 5k.

Depends how new/old you want it, and your budget?

Before we sorted out our car situation (we're also moving house and i'll be 30 miles from work) i was going to get a Rover 400 / 600 diesel. Original L-series is hard as nails, peice of piss to repair when somethings wrong, and can do 40-50 mpg.

My 620SDi was a cracking motor, most i got out of a tank was 510 miles. Commuted every week from Swansea to Telford, and the only time it skipped a beat was when the clutch went. £100 for the kit, £100 to fit it.

Sold it after it failed the mot on alot of work, but i reckon the garage stitched me up , but needs must at the time, and got rid to a mate at work. Who did the relavent bits and put another 30k on the clock before the body went. Engine and box, a mere 230,000 on it, and pulled like a train.

Something newer? A decent rover 45 derv can be got for a couple of grand, mainly because of the "image". Or a focus/astra/vectra?

Can recommend the vectra. Dad has the 1.9CDTi SRi spec version and in 2 years put 50k on the clock. Apart from a pulley on the cam belt becoming noisey, its just been servicing which isnt that expensive. Great power, 6 speed box and nice to drive. Plastics feel a little mundane, but its comfortable on long journeys and quite nimble round town.

Well I have the 75 diesel but it has been modded all the way so its kicking out between 160 and 170 bhp. 51 plate and done over 145k now and never misses a beat. Only thing I will say is since having the 260 I have found it easier to stall a diesel....
