    Default Looking for a 260 - possibly a Rover 75

Any advice on what to look at and whats up for sale at the moment that I should avoid

I am looking to buy a 260 and am leaning towards a Rover 75, mainly for the cruse and auto box, as well as all the toys

This is to go with my baby 73 MG Midget and to be used on the days its sick or too cold or wet to drag the wife out in.

Told her its a practical choice, and will be a sensible buy, hopeful she doesn't kill me when I turn up with one

Absolutely unbelievable - do they really think they're ever going to sell them at anywhere near new price? No-one is going to buy them, so long as there are reasonable examples around at a fraction of the cost.

This is still quite expensive (which is no doubt why it's been for sale for quite a few months). Much more reasonable was the one Malcolm was selling a while back: https://www.two-sixties.co.uk/mgoc26...ead.php?t=5962. I assume it's sold now, but worth checking with Malcolm just to confirm.

It's fairly quiet for Rover 75 V8s at the moment, but if you can afford to wait a month or two, some reasonable ones will probably come along.

Plenty out there if you arent in a rush. If you arent too fussed about the sportier driving provided by the ZT the 75 is a great car. Slightly softer suspension and the auto make it an ultimate cruiser.

Although, there are a lot less of them than the ZTs, so the wait could be longer. Probably carrier a premium because of the rarity too...

As for toys, they have equivalent specs. In fact, if you find a directors car (all zts i believe) you will find all the extra toys like built in DVD etc

Thanks for the info. I have called SMC and will be going down to view tomorrow. What would you suggest is the going rate . He tells me he has just dropped the price by a £1000, though if I put the details in as a part ex - it comes back as just £2800. Any one have issues with insurance valuations? as I find they tend to use the trade in value as the market value.

Though on a good note my current insurer only want's £40 more to insure it than my present Jag and that's for another 10 months. I almost choked it was so little.

Yes, it was originally up for £9,995 and they knocked off £1000 a few weeks ago. That doesn't imply it's now a bargain - it simply confirms it was definitely too high previously.

On the other hand, you can't go off the price guides either, since they value most 260s and 75s ridiculously low.

I'd be thinking around £7.5K for that spec/year/mileage, maybe a bit more if it comes with some sort of warranty, maybe a bit less if it needs servicing / tyres. But that's just my opinion - there are so few buyers & sellers that these cars really are worth what someone will pay and I very much doubt SMC would give it away for that price!

Enjoy your viewing and let us know how you get on.
