V8 engine with wheels that size? You might as well put the engine on the back of a pushbike...

With a 3rd kid on the way, I bought a Ford S-Max. Diesel, to boot...

was just going to wish you good luck with the sale, but provisionally sold, well done, i'm sure you'll be sad to see it go.

Yes, I'll be very sad to see it go, but I just couldn't keep it. I replaced it with a Ford S-max for practicality, and already have a sort of 'my car' that the wife (barely) puts up with - an R34 Nissan Skyline.

If the MG had been a saloon, I would have considered supercharging it and selling the Skyline so that I could have had a track day car, but if that had been the case I wouldn't have had the Skyline in the first place, and would have owned another family car besides the MG - if you see what I mean!

I once met someone at Snetterton in a mark 1 ZT 260 on a track day (August 2008 I think?) - I wonder if he's a member here.

I know I've said it in another thread somewhere, but honestly, the Ford I've bought feels like at any moment it might just fall apart, whereas the MG feels like it was carved out of a solid block of stone.

I am definitely going to miss it, and suspect I will look back on it in years to come as possibly the best car I ever owned.

    Jules

PS Think the chap buying it is a lurker here already, so you'll probably get to know him.

They're both great cars. Different in many ways, but similar in others - both the GTR and the 260 (or maybe preferably the aspirational 385) were the top of the range versions of mass produced daily stalwarts. I've always believed MG/Rover should have publicised the work they did with the V8 engines more.

In the 1970s Ford Escort man could point to the Mexico rally car and say 'I drive one of those', Colin McRae did the same for Subaru and Audi have brought diesel to the masses by winning Le Mans.
