    Question Security Security

Hello there, new member so please be gentle.

I'm looking to by an MG ZT V8 in a few months time and one of the things concerning me is security. ( My previous car was stolen . )
I know the car comes with a cat 1 alarm but is it still any good by today's standards and would you recommend a particular alarm system I could get fitted.
Apart from very angry dogs is there any other security measures worth considering.

    Thanks

They are factory fitted Thatcham Category 1 alarms which have both volumetric (internal) and perimetric (external) systems. The key fob has an inbuilt transponder coded to the car.

I don't think you will be able to add to the existing system as it is linked to the BCU which would then need recoding. You would, of course, be able to fit an additional system but that may not add anything to the existing security.

Hope this helps, good luck with your search.

    Thanks eeii
I use a steering Wheel attachment on all my cars,
It's not so much as it's OK you can claim on the insurance but I have modified my car over the 8 years I have owned it and don't want to start again

    Ohh and :

I read a review on the car once that under security stated the only way you would get a joy ride in the car is if you had the keys. I don't worry about mine being stolen, very happy with the standard security. Hope that helps.

Thanks very much for the responses, very helpful. I seem to remember having one of those bright yellow steering wheel jobs in the loft (I must have put it there 10 years ago) I never thought I would need it again but every little helps these days.

    Cheers

I have 3 different types, on one of them, they recon it takes 15 minutes with an angle grinder to get it off. (That's the one on my ZTT )

Just as a matter of interest it took me over an hour (nearer two) to remove the ignition barrel from our ZS with the column in situ (Using a Dremmel with 90 degree bender and a drill and various drill bits/grinding bits)
