I Don’t require your comments as to the possible rights and wrongs, in your opinion , of the volume of noise emitted from my aforementioned Zero’s ..from a “ Social morality “ stand point ..thank you very much . I find your remarks bloody rude, don’t you dare moralise and patronise me. like some self appointed Judge of my Character and actions....okay.

Also..the points re type approval / Void Insurance Etc are BS .
In David's defence Harry I didn't read his reply to you as an opinion on social morality but more of a light hearted comment regarding the legal standing of possibly infringing legalities. I often think it is more than helpful (although sometimes irritating I agree) for people to point out the pitfalls of some of our courses of action. Regarding the type approval comment unfortunately he is perfectly correct and the implications regarding invalidating insurance are sadly, as so many people will testify, all too true, insurance companies are all too keen to look for ways to avoid paying out on claims.
I really don't think he was trying to moralise or patronise but more to provide information...........anyway about those tyres......!

Thanks Nich. What I was trying to say, but you managed to a lot more eloquently !

The 82dB figure was taken from a Dutch breakdown of the EU regulations applicable.
I assumed, maybe wrongly, that EU regulations also applied to the UK in the matter, at least for the next few hours (/days/weeks/months/years) !

Sorry if I inadvertently offended some folk; obviously unintentional. Only trying to help !

If you change your exhaust, then you should notify your insurers, surely then you would be covered?

I don’t quite understand the part where you can’t make it louder than the type approval, how does that work?
There are so many performance exhausts for sale, surely most must increase the sound level?

A few comments ...on it all ...

The 260’s are...16 years old +/- . The Type approval would have been done...how long ago 16/17 yrs ❓ The Company ..MG ..went bust / is finished / no parts ..no official OEM parts produced anymore ..yes ❓
They came with a “ Standard “:Set of Silencers..yes❓ What about the famous X Power Silencers then ❓ They aren’t the same tone as the standards ..❓ They aren’t the same volume/ decibels ..❓ BECAUSE..if they were no louder ..didnt sound louder / throaty / etc...then WHY are they / why were they ..so sought after ❓ What about the numerous posts ..instructions how to ..sleeve ( I think it’s described ) the X Power Silencers ..to make them EVEN LOUDER ❗️
What about the ..who’s got the Loudest Exhaust Competitions ...at the Pride Of Longbridge ..days then ❓

Re my Zero’s ..they are constructed to oem dimensions . ..or as near as possible..they look normal/ standard ..I can’t get MG ones ..obviously..yes ❓ The bloody Car was made in 2004 ❗️ Do you REALLY think I would be prosecuted for fitting them ❓ My Insurance Company would invalidate my Policy ..because they were fitted ...❓ Utter unadulterated Bullshit ❗️

Unless you fit ..obviously hi special performance Exhausts ..to a newish car...or mega ..ridiculously loud Exhausts..on a car...you will be absolutely fine ..no problems .

Motorbikes...thousands of them..all fitted with aftermarket ..performance..LOUD as buggery ..Exhaust Sytems. BECAUSE...miles cheaper than the standard OEM Exhausts.. other than the hi Performance considerations .

BUT...out of interest...IF you de Cat your Exhausts System ...fit “ Sports Cats “ .....more than likely ...your Car ..will not...or WOULD NOT..pass an MOT. ❗️ SO....you have an accident...the Cars taken away ..the Insurance Assessor examines the damaged Car...it’s discovered that ..you have removed the Cats/ by passed them/ fitted Sports Cats ...which mean ...in that state ..YOUR CAR WOULD NOT pass an MOT ..guess what..your Car is deemed unroadworthy..with a void MOT..no pay out for the damage etc.

There are are many other things that can ..possibly..cause problems re Insurance...TYRES..for example. Our OEM / TYPE APPROVAL Tyre Size ..225/45 R 18. Yes ❓ IF you change the sizes to..235/40 R18...it’s not only ..fitting a different ..none oem size...it’s also..potentially dangerous..could be a MOT fail ...AS...because it’s a 40 per cent Ratio Tyre size ..it should be fitted to a Wheel with a minimum size of 8 inches width. Our wheels ..standard..are 7.5 inches wide ..yes ❓
This is As Tyre Manufactures recommendations . ..stated on their literature. Min/ max recommended Tire Sizes for Wheel Rims Etc ❗️

IF..people want to moralise ..and act like Holy Joe’s ..re the anti social nature of having throaty loud Exhausts on your 260...then ..why bloody own one yourself..Standard Exhaust Silencers or not ❗️ You’ve bought an old V8 ..petrol guzzler ..not super efficient..emissions is ..to start with. Buy an electric Car...if your such a Morally superior person. Or get a Bicycle..go on public Transport .

IF..all this ..void Insurance..illegal Exhausts stuff was...true ..or seriously a massive threat ...there wouldn’t be thousands of Shops / Tuning Companies ..selling them . Kevin at Zero...wouldn’t have a highly successful Company ..making Exhausts for a huge variety of performance and classic cars.

IF ..I had fitted performance Manifolds to mine ...then I would ..have informed my Insurance Company .

But ..I cant get standard official..MG Silencers ..because the Company is finished,,bust..gone..and I purchase a a pair of Stainless Boxes ..standard sizes , or near enough, ..that have a different exhaust note ..that may not exactly match the Silencers that were originally on the car in 2004 ..AM I going to worry about the invalidation of my Insurance Policy...worry about being hauled before the local Magistrates..for a unroadworthy Car ...of course I’m blood well not ❗️

My Zero’ are very throaty..with a “ Mustang note “ ..they won’t cause loss of hearing to anyone in near proximity.

This is a performance Car Club. A specialist Performance Car..with a big USA Ford Mustang 4.6 V8 Engine in ❗️
They are fast cars . That’s what it’s all about...why the bloody hell are be piddling about ..discussing...are our Exhausts too loud for ❗️❗️❗️ Come on ..it’s namby pamby crap.

    Lighten up everyone.

    Gentlemen...Rev your Engines ❗️

I STILL feel guilty about our “ Tyre Wars “ posts Nich ❗️ There I was criticising your Continental Tyres recommendation..saying my Toyo’s We’re so much better...your Continentals were crap...ya boo sucks Etc ❗️AND..the Tyres I’d taken off ..were actually ..BRIDGESTONES ❗️❗️ It was only months later I realised ..my embarrassing cock up ❗️
Anyway..Toyo have changed the actual T1 Sports Tyres ..into the Proxy Sports now..and ruined them evidently ❗️ A new Compound. Terrible test results ..every test..nearly the lowest score ..in Dry , Rain, you name it ..road test conditions. A real shame..I need a new set soon..won’t be choosing Toyo’s again.

The new ( ish ) ....Continental Premium 6 ...Tires actually sound quite good ...I’m tempted ....Looked at some highly regarded German Magazine Tyre Tests ...on impressive Test Circuits...and they reckoned the Conti’s were the DB’s ...best handling on dry , best steering / cornering ..and won the tests ..ahead of the usual current Tyre Test hero ..the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ❗️

Please look at my post re : Kwic Fit Tyres ...( posting tomorrow ) with regards to my Local Branch Managers Tyre recommendation for my 260:❗️ It’s hilarious ...actually ..it’s an insanely dangerous recommendation ..a Tyre Fitment suggestion...that would probably end up in my swift death...if I accepted his “ knowledgable expert’s “ advice ❗️
I would never ever but Tires from them anyway ..I was only checking prices. But it really was amazing..how useless they are ..starting from the Top down ❗️

Louder backboxes voiding UK insurance....rofl, the internet really does propagate some absolute BS.

I wish people would stop spouting things as gospel.

People are dying and starving all around the world, and you have people arguing semantics over a backbox.......

As much as I agree with you insurance companies do try it on when it comes to claims, I know of a classic car that had an accident and when the insurance assessor came to ''inspect '' the car he found that the colour was wrong, the car had been resprayed in another colour and they had not been told. Luckily the owner had taken his insurance out through a broker and they argued the point for the owner and the insurance company did pay out.

How can changing the colour of your car infect the insurance? They will do anything looking for a way out including the checking the depth of tread on the tyres even if a radio has been stolen.
