    Default Dipstick for 260

    Hi all,
Can anyone point me towards a new dipstick for my ZT-T 260?
    Mine has mysteriously disappeared.
Ordered a replacement from the States, as Rimmers say they're unavailable, but Pete Waite says it won't fit as the sumps on the MG are different.
£19 for the stick, £42 for the carriage! Ouch!!!
Not sure where the original went but Pete, who looks after the car, says he hasn't seen it at his place.
    Thanks in advance,
    Eugene
P.S. Have made plans to go the Yorkshire meeting in April - my first meet! - so would like to get it sorted by then.

    Well it is listed here:
    http://mgrovergenuine.co.uk/genuine-...0080-dipstick/
... but whether they actually have it in stock or not may be another matter! Give them a call maybe?

Give Chris a call at Retro Sportscars. He's done a few engine swaps so may have one lying around.

I've tried once to order something from them, only to be told 48hrs later than item was NLA and was refunded. Looks to me like they list most if not all of MGR part numbers, only to check if available or not once a customer has placed an order.

Think you're probably right, scoubix, but in view of the NLA elsewhere, I thought it may be worth a try; doesn't cost to try!
I did once manage to get a part from them on that basis, which was certainly NLA elsewhere, Rimmers, Austin's, Dreadnought et al.

If Peter still has my old engine there will be one in that. Didn't think to take it with me.

Right so the brand new Ford labelled stick arrived by Fedex today.
Looks and feels exactly like the old one. No issues with fit or tube seal.
Most importantly though, it shows there's a healthy amount of oil in the sump!

    Now here's a request,
Would it be possible for someone to measure the precise length of the one fitted to the MG/Rov?
The one I've just got measures 705mm or 273/4" from tip to the top of the handle, (the entire length, handle included). If the lengths are different then I can extrapolate one from the other and benchmark the US item I now have accordingly.
    Thx,
    Eugene

P.S. Tim, I don't think Pete still has your old engine.
P.P.S. A photo of it (albeit with rusty cams), is my WhatsApp profile pic!

    Hi Rich,
    Thanks a million!
To me they look exactly the same taking into account the slight curve of the wire section in your pics. I was pulling the whole thing tight against the tape to measure.
Gosh it's nice to see clean engine oil again, the two diesels I've owned look black almost immediately after an oil change. Was told that's normal on oil burners.
    See you in April,
    Eugene
