I think this will be the standard problem with the Bosch 5.7 unit. It gets heat soak and will be fine while cold then stop working after maybe 10 mins of so, the speedo also stops with it.

It is a well known issue on cars with this Bosch unit (BMW) etc there is a detailed thread on here I think. If it has not gone to far it can be fixed, the issue for us is that the software is MG/Rover V8 specific and no-one has it I believe. So buying a new or used 5.7 unit off ebay off another car will not work long term with our car, so your 260 one needs to be fixed.

ABS - I think it happens below 56mph and it doesn't effect the speedo.
Cat D status has been removed.

I would think it is more likely that the ABS has a sensor/wire connection problem. I have seen a few high mileage cars have problems with the reluctor ring on the drive shafts rusting.

Yep. Like I said : "However it might still be worth wiggling the blue connectors at the wheel-arch ends to see if that effects it. The loom-end part of the connector can crumble or become damaged after being disconnected several times over the years. I 'fixed' one by hard-wiring it. Really terrible connectors prone to problems like the air-bag ones under the front seats."

I use these for many things. Prongs are split (so can be widened)

A bit of grease and a wire tie sometimes.

I have had similar problems with ABS warning and speedo drop off, mine was initially caused by a wheel speed sensor on its way out subsequently replaced with an after market sensor which show ABS warning lights at various speeds then I replaced with an original parts which solved all the problems.

Sold for £6,900 Quite a high price for a car without a MoT and needing work!! Curiously the winning bidder placed their bid nearly a week ago, so will be interesting to see if the deal completes, or will we see the car 'relisted' in a week or so like so many vehicle sales on E bay.
