    Default Battery Killer

    Hi,

We have a 260 with an annoying habit.
A few months ago the car went into the used to be Rover dealer to have the aircon pump changed.
After much cost and lots of BS we got the car back and it will now drain the battery to zero in a few days.
I stuck an ammeter on the battery and there is a constant drain of 2.3Amps after waiting for several minutes for all the various things to turn off.
Before I start digging any further I thought to ask on here, maybe someone has had the same issue.
BTW I also suspect foul play from the garage, they had the car a long time and fiddled a lot.
They also replaced the front fan assembly.

Would much appreciate some help with this.

Hi Ben, welcome to the Two-Sixties.

One of the most regular causes of battery drain is the SatNav drive not shutting down, mainly as a result of water ingress. Lots of questions, what model is it? Has it thrown up any error codes? Why did they replace the fan assembly? Can you track down the discharge further down the loom?

I would try disconnecting the SatNav drive first.

What are the last three digits of your VIN? Any photos?

Hi Nich, thanks for the welcome.
I will fill all the car spec in a bit, just wanted to get the question out there.

The 260 we have is an estate but it is Rover badged and if I remember right it is one of the earlier ones.
I still have to put a code reader on it ( got to get one first).

The fan assembly was changed because the fan only ran at one speed, flat out, and the monkeys at the garage insisted this was why the aircon didn't work properly.
As I said in the post I suspect foul play as the "interaction" with the garage was not good, and the battery killing stated after it came back from them.

Hopefully with a bit of collective help we can get to the bottom of this.

Another question for you. I have tried to jump start the car using the positive points in the engine bay ( the big red ones passenger side front) and nothing happens, why is this?

If this is the one then you should be able to use a spare battery connected to this terminal, make sure your earthing point is good, there are a lot of earthing points on these cars and they have been known to fail causing problems. Simple to unbolt and clean though.

In this picture it shows replacement longer allen bolts, it makes it easier to clip on crock clips. Yours will have shorter domed torx bolts.

I don't use to jump start from here,(cable is not thick enough for continuous use) just charge the battery.

I also have a socket wired in, to plug a saver charger into. (the black lead beside the thick red cable)
