I think I've got one Andy. Can't comment if its good or not but its not bad. It was a bit rattly for me so bought a new one stuck it on my 75v6, put the one from that on my sons ZS. I'm sure its sitting in a box in the parts bunker (was my little work shop).

The reason it rattles is the butterfly's arms should be pressed into cups.

The cups wear and the balls come out of the cups which allows the butterfly's to be loose
(and also the actuator arm just floats free).

Couldn't get the plate off so I drilled holes in it

Ah, Andy, all that lovely plastic! The modern car owners nightmare. Thank goodness for our largely all-metal 260 engines! Proper timing chains and all....

It is interesting, though, how some of these VIS units last forever while others wear rapidly. I (and the previous owner) went through three on my ZT180 in less than 100,000 miles. One recommended approach to minimising wear is to ensure you have an oil trap on the breather line. Yours certainly looks very oily and I'm told that the oil and other impurities mix themselves into a lovely grinding paste which speeds up the wear processes. I did put one of these on the 180, but ended up takling it off when it didn't seem to be trapping any oil. I'm about to put it on the 1275 engine in the MG1100 which definitely swallows lots of oil!

Andy - this is what my oil catch tank looked like. I attached it to the side of the battery box.

    Cheers...

Thanks for the picture , I have heard if these but not seen one fitted.

The car is in excellent condition and so worth the time (and a bit of money) spending on it to get it right then sell on.
