Hi
Just thought I would say that I was pleased to get a chance to drive this car late last week. I was passing nearby on business so a real stroke of luck. It certainly looks in good condition with some very minor wear and tear, and the present owner certainly likes his special cars and is well used to driving V8s of all sorts, especially the Ford V8 coupled to the autobox as used in the R75 V8. Hence he wanted this, and his family drives it too.
I had a good look at the body, under the wheel arch and at the bare metal area inside the boot area and wheel arch around the previous repair. While obviously not a mechanic's inspection, it was free from any sign of damage or even repair except a slightly different rear light colour shade due to its youth. The previous older lady owner apprently fitted cheapo Chineses tyres and went into a slow skid in the wet and banged the rear wing area.
I was allowed to give the car a good run around on the Scottish lowland back roads. The car drove really well, and I gave it a good braking, steering, accel, and decel tests. It was my 1st time in in an R75 V8 and the auto box was excellent whether from a gentle move off or rapid overtakes. In fact the push down overtake was stunning on a short straight strip overtaking a 40mph daudler. I have nealry 70K ZT V8 miles under my belt so was duly impressed, especially as some of the original write ups of the R75 V8 auto aand performance were lack lustre. I know I am a MGR fan for 40 years, but, hey its a fine car with classic Rover Vitesse refinement. The ride as anticpated was fabulous and so quietly refined compared to the ZT variant --- horses for courses eh?
My dilema is I was on my way to see a mongram ZT V8 which in my heart of hearts is the long overdue replacement for my original Typhoon ZT-T. Thats a superb car too. I have thought carefully about going for both to have and to hold 2 fine examples of the breeds...but Christmas is a coming as they say. If you really fancy a fine R75 V8 in a fab XPG colour with chrome trim...this is the car for you....and me....maybe! I know some of you think its overpriced..and stricly speaking it is. However, if you want one of these cars with low mileage.... dont be afraid...all the relevant paperwork is there too.
Cheers
