I haven't tried Fuchs, but I have indeed tried Castrol. I phoned their technical number on and a lady who clearly didn't have a clue managed to find a contact number for the local distributor in Olifantsfontein. I phoned them, and they had never heard about it, let alone ever sold it!. They came back and said that their local says person will give me a ring on Tuesday.
But, again, the most expensive brands say they are Mercon and Dexron III compatible, which sounds like mumbo jumbo to me.

It seems Dexron and Mercon is one and the same. It is the last time I am going to try and get a specific number, grade, shade colour etc. From now on a known name, and unless there is a warning NOT to, I will.
As I said before it's just a spec, whether they call it Mercon (Ford) or Dexron (GM) they all cover the same.
If the oil maunfacturer, who makes oil to the required spec (for either Ford of GM), says they similar it's good enough for me
