Don't think it is sold seperately, but you can happily run your car without it.
I removed most of the airfilter housing and left just enough to keep the filter in place.

That means you got the part left that I am looking for? ;D

Today when converting headlamps from RHD to LHD I saw ice in there at the air filter, so I guess this part I am looking for does make sense

I had the part, but after moving house lots of stuff went into storage.

Putting the part on means you can't see the ice so it does help (visually )

I have one it's brand, new never been used.

I bought the whole unit from SMC a few months ago to get the lower section, but don't need the upper.

I would be worried about the filter getting wet or dirtier quicker, how long have you run yours without top bit?

Do I remember you saying somewhere about it producing a certain percentage more power due to being so many degrees cooler without the top bit on?

Been running like that for about a year now. Been fine ever since.
When I had the misfire and checked the MAF there was no sign of water in the lower bend.

About horsepower, I believe the general consensus is about 1% powergain for every 10 Farhenheit drop (approx. 6 Celcuis)

Klaus told me that even with to upper part the water comes more easy into the airfilter in heavy rain.

    Any more experience here?

I're read comments to that effect, but in 120,000 miles it's not something I've experienced.
