I have just bought an accident damaged V8

Hi Guys,

This is my first post over here but I have been a member of .org for a while now having owned two 190 ZTs. I've always wanted a V8 really and also love car projects so finally in some sort of position to take this on, I took a risk and won the auction below, I'm sure some, if not all of you will have seen the auction:-

The car in question is being delivered this Friday. I have already sourced all the body parts I will need from a chap who was breaking an x power grey 190, in fact, I've bought most of the 190 including radiator and fan etc.. and it's already in the correct colour which will save a fortune.

The 260 is being delivered straight to a garage/bodyshop owned by a friend who will assess it properly as soon as it arrives and let me know exactly what is going to be involved. They are excellent and have done lots of more than satisfactory work for me and family in the past.

So far I haven't managed to get the drivers side rear trailing arm and other damaged bits from that area, it has been suggested that I might need a complete hub.

I would really appreciate any help in sourcing the parts I need, here are two pictures of the damaged parts:-

I'm hoping completing this project will be possible within budget and I'll end up with my dream car at the end of it! Really would appreciate the opinions of all you lot over here as you're the experts so any tips or advice, please fire away. All I would say is that I'm well aware everyone has their own opinion, I've heard, it will be an easy repair right through to its breaker, don't bother so the fact is, I am going for it, constructive tips and opinions would be more appreciated than don't bother etc... :-)

Welcome along Matt. If you complete the questionnaire you will have access to alot of reading material. That said just asking in the public area should get results from 'the boys' :)

I may have a trailing arm (not sure if it's the right/correct side), though I'm about 100 miles from my stores at the moment so not in a position to check

I need the funds so, though very relucant to sell as they are so scare, I'll see if I can get to check asap

If I have one (think I do) it's new not used and set me back around £100 plus postage

That sounds brilliant if you are willing to sell it. I'm in Sheffield but do travel around quite a bit but then again, postage wouldn't be too much. If you do have it and are willing to sell it then please do let me know as short of getting one made, I think this would be the part causing most trouble getting.

Did you get two sets of wheels with it? ie 4 grids and 4 apexs?

In the top photo, the broken circular bit thats had a bar snapped off....? Cant quite tell from the photo, but was there corrosion throughout the section?

well there's a few of us on here that have taken on repairs to save one of these cars, including myself, though not nearly as bad as that.

do you think it needs a subframe?

Ime sure I recall seeing a complete rear "stuff up unit" a while back. Could be a good option if you can find one.

Good luck with it! mechanical bits are easy if you can find them. Its the bodywork thats the hard bit IMO.

I agree regarding the bodywork being harder but I don't think it will be a problem, Don't think it will need a subframe, I get the car tomorrow, can't wait, when I know exactly what im going to need i'll be back on here im sure for advice and maybe sourcing a few parts as well, of course, the real fun starts when the cars back to former glory!

I can see getting this rear trailing arm being a problem unless ColinE has one and is willing to sell it, I think I'll send a hopeful PM now.

I'll sort out the traiing arm next weekend (11th June) from it's storage in Dorset and work out postage

Need to raise some cash to secure the future of #456 so a few bits may be coming up for sale

354 is now safely on its way to Matt, after something of a stressfull time getting it loaded onto a recovery truck and a very close call to our young apple tree! In the end a bit of V8 grunt came to the rescue of a very distressed electric winch :). I know that Matt will give it his best shot as to whether the car can be saved and if the worst comes to the worst he knows that there's a new bodyshell just along the road from him!! ;)

Not too great to be honest. Really struggling to find a company that can Jig the car. Various companies have had a look then gone away and said no for various reasons.

I've arranged for a company with a different type of machine to come and see the car and they are confident from the photos that they can do it but they can't come out until January now so another delay sadly.

I've had all the parts I need for ages now and the front end is completely rebuilt, the car actually drives but it needs jigging and obviously all the the body work!

Thats real bad news, I seem to remember you getting your damaged V8 around the same time I bought my non damaged one, hopefully your New Year will bring better luck to you fingers crossed.
