Nice summary..................:)

Im sorry, I still don't quite understand this.
Unless everyone in this thread who is saying its a great car has been to see it how can you tell?
There is no mention of any of the long list of "characteristics" that need sorted on pretty much all these cars.
You could drop £9K on on of these from a "specialist" and you would more than likely find that it leaked in the boot the first time it rained, or the fan resistor packed up shortly after purchase, or the A/C compressor is noisy, etc etc etc.....
Dealers sell cars for profit. I would be VERY surprised if ANY dealer car was cared for as much as an enthusiastic private owner.
I would never, ever purchase from a car dealer, Im really struggling to see the value that these supposed experts are adding.
I think anyone would be mad to line someone elses pocket whilst having no guarantee that its any better than a privately owned one at a lower price.
If anyone has any evidence to the contrary then I would be most receptive to this.
I remain pessimistic though, and I cannot see how a dealer car at several thousand pounds more than the most expensive private sales gets you any better example.
The car in this thread has not even got Apex alloys! The ONLY ones that really suit the ZT down to the ground.
Ive seen so many "mint" cars from dealers, and its hilarious how many of them look wonderful, but still have all the inherent faults that the ZT/75 range has.
If these faults were documented to have been fixed and there was evidence of this then sure, I could see where the extra value can come from, but all I can see here is just another 260 thats been bought off a private seller or a garage part ex, and sold on at a higher price after having had extra miles put on by the dealer.
Sorry to be pessimistic here, I hope I'm making my point clearly and politely!
Sigh.. I suppose I sound like a right miserable ****... still, free bumpage for the OP!
When you get to my age and have owned over 50 cars I have been through it all.
I have mostly bought privately with limited guarantee as I repair my own stuff, (normally after modifying and busting something).
A dealer like James understands the quirks of our cars where most MG workshops don't. (personal experience).
Just to even it up Summit Garage, Austins, Dreadnought to name a couple I have dealt with, with success.
Good Luck. You will find what you want, or close to.
:-}
Somebody thought it worth a punt ;@)
I can see where your coming from.
However, a dealer bought car usually comes with a warranty - and this does add value. More to some people than others. As AndyG says - some people are able to (and prefer) to take the risk and fix things themselves. others, like me, would leave things like that to the experts.
Looks like its sold though - lucky someone....
Hi, yes we are all entitled to our own views, but this stunning car is now "SOLD", to a really genuine MG enthusiast couple, who understand the MG 260's and have done therir research on 260's, as they know some owners on here,
the car couldnt really have gone to more deserving and genuine new 260 owners. i had more interest in this car than probably any of the 45+ 260's i have had and is probably one of if not the best one i have had. genuinely will be sad to see it go. as you all know i buy and sell these beasts and i use a reputable garage to do work on these cars as they undeststand them as they have done work on most of the ones i have sold and get work done thats necessary. i use another main dealer for independent MOTs so the cars are thoroughly checked over by 3rd parties, so they and i know the foibles on 260's and know what to look for, so T16 as you dont know me or the garages i use, your comments are unfair and wrong.
yes people are commenting on it without seeing it - even you the most - T16 !!!!! so your comments are equally unfair, best keep saving up for your £2,000 CAT D 260
regards to all JB
Glad to hear that it's gone to a good home. :thumb
I hope the new owner is on here/ joins here soon
I'm kind of getting the impression you are in the wrong place. And, if no-one bought cars from dealers (quote from the boldness above) who need to make a profit to survive, where would we get our second hand ones from?
BTW, I've a second hand 2001 Peugeot 206 for sale if you are interested. No guarantees, natch!
Natch here in the West Country is http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/62825.jpg http://ukcider.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Natch :thumb
