Satnav Gremlins

My satnav first gave the surprise message "insert disc" and a few days later it disappeared altogether with the option greyed out on the menu.

The red light on the unit on the boot was permanently on. It would not eject the disc no matter what.

There has been a lot of rain lately and I noticed some condensation in the car lately. Doing searches reveals possible K bus problems when dampness gets in the boot area and near the unit.

I read dire warnings not to pop the disc when the red light is on but it would not do it anyway. The warnings also said not to power down the unit while the red light was on.

Anyway there was no choice because I could do nothing else so I disconnected the battery for 3 minutes and voila on reconnect everything was working fine again and full satnav was back.

So anyone else with the satnav red light staying on should try disconnecting the battery - if in doubt reboot.

I read on one search about someone replacing the unit 3 times due to this same type of fault!
