Hello folks
Those of you who know me from elsewhere will probably by now know that I've just bought a 260 on Wednesday, it's an 04 plate SE in Disappointing Grey:~ & is a Cat D write off but the damage is sooooo minimal.

I found it accidentally just over a week ago whilst out scratching about the local yards, I had been looking at a 75 & a 1.8 ZT for bits but there was nowt worth having but on the way back to my car I saw it lurking behind a Fiat Taxi so went across for a look & as soon as I saw the little badge on the front wing I turned into an excited schoolboy:D

So for the next few days I mulled it over & then decided to go for it but I was tipped off that it had just been listed on ebay so I was gutted & then someone started a thread about it on the 75/zt forum & I thought "I'm gonna lose this here" so I checked the ad & no bids so I rang the yard owner & told him I wanted that car so he said fine & I put a deposit on it.............WHAT?...........nooooo a monetary deposit;) & then went with the balance to collect it on Thursday.

It needs a front bumper & headlamp & fog & indicator plus a small repair to the bonnet & front wing so I stripped off all the damaged stuff yesterday & the only "hidden" problem was the entire air intake was smashed to bits but after a tip off from tonybubble I have got one coming.

Aside from this damage it needs a brake pipe, a set of rear pads, front discs & pads & a tyre so all in all I'm very pleased with my purchase

Welcome along!

You might want to put a K&N on it when you rebuild the air intake as they are difficult to access when back together,

Funny how such minimal damage leads to a write off these days, another one saved

Well yeah I'm looking into all options but I'll still buy the complete standard intake & take it from there. I did almost identical damage to my ZT-T last winter & I repaired it myself as I feared it would be written off.

Here's a few pics

The K&N is a replacement for the standard filter, not a revised intake BTW :)

Oh I see an oe style, oh well I'll most likely do that then if there's enough left in the pot after the repairs. We've had the T4 on it & given it a health check & enabled/disabled a few dealer options & apart from right hand dipped beam defective everything else cleared & stayed away, also I now have a 2nd key courtesy of marinabrian as it only came with one (just needs the blade cutting)

It certainly looks good for a scrapyard find!

Doesnt look too expensive to sort, now if only you could swap the colours over from your other one ;)

Aye I thought about that, swap the bits that fit & get the back end painted to match

It's free mate apart from mgoc membership, but sooo worth it. Anyway nothing wrong with xpg. Sniff'
It's bloody crazy what they will write off. I bet it's because of the difficulty of obtaining the bumper and headlight from official sources.
Great purchase chap. You'll love it.

Mmm it is rather, I was unsure about it at first as I bought it on the bay & it didn't photograph well & I was worried all the way going to collect it but when i rounded the corner into his street I was immediately impressed, quite a well specced car aswell for a + model

nice one, well done on your purchase.

It is inded crazy what they will write a car off for these days - I should know, I had similar damage to mine, although perhaps a little worse in some ways, but better in others (bumper and headlight ok). It is probably because bumpers are NLA and even then the list price is/was around 800 + vat.

Can I ask, ballpark, what sort of money you had to pay for it? I bought mine back off the insurer for 20% of the insurance payout / valuation. And this equated to around 1k.

£3500 which I was happy with

Welcome and enjoy. Oh and by the way thats a great colour. (may be a bit biased though) Hopefully you'll pick up a second hand headlight and bumper, Xenons are NLA at present although I believe that XPart are looking to resource which is good news for us. I believe Bumpers are available though.

Hi and welcome Colin.

MGOC membership to enable full access to here for help and advice and purchases through the Two-Sixties (uprated heater hose, rear springs etc etc) will actually save you much much more than the small yearly MGOC fee.

Speak to Brian at Dreadnought, I recently got a new bumper from him and he had a few others at the time.

What he said!

There's a lot of invaluable info on here and occasionally some bespoke parts are ordered up. I think it would be challenging to look after a 260 without the support of this group.

Welcome to V8 ownership :D

Saw the thread over on the OC. I had a thought about the rather green hue wheels - you could always treat them to a bit of Orange Grove to brighten up the XPG :~

Fine thanks mate. As I cannot stomach the shennanigings on the club site, I sent you a brief message on the community site before you appeared here but you've not been there lately

Hopefully we will see you at a nano-meet soon? Well, at least when the weather is OK.

Some nice progress made today, lots of parcels have arrived:thumb I got my brand new headlamp, powerwash hoses, powerwash jet, bootlid badge & most important of all airbox/intake assy, I've fitted the airbox & the badge as that's about as far as I can go for the moment, going to see about getting the bonnet & wing painted this week then all I need is a bumper

Obviously this is only my opinion. However, not all of us are fans of the rusty chrome brigade mgoc, but they have there uses the info here is truly second to none. We aint pushing you chap, just a bit of banter. I've only been a member here for a little over a year, but I can catagoricaly say that this is by far the best, least bitchy, most friendly, most helpful and most entertaining forum I've ever had the privilege of becoming a member of. Plus the car ain't half bad either. :-)
