Hi guys,

Not long purchased my V8 260 after owning a V6 ZT 160 BHP. Love the power but have one or two problems some people on hear may know about.
I think the gearbox is a bit archaic and has a heavy clutch and difficult to change gear quickly. I am getting used to it though.
Got a bit of backlash on the driveshafts also. But nothing I cant live with.
remote central locking and alarm only works when you put the key in the lock, has this happened to anyone else? have changed battery in fob but to no avail..
It has a samco induction kit on it, I will post a pic at some point but does anybody else have one of these? it looks like it has had the airbox removed and I cant see a cone filter.
I would really like the Xpower or Cobra exhausts :love I like the sound from them. I ould like to stay with the twin pipes each side. Can anyone advise where I would get either of these exhausts or something with a good sound and how much would it cost?

Looks like a great forum and is good to speak to other enthusiasts. :)

Welcome enjoy your car your now one of a few.
I to had a 160V6 and the gearbox is old in comparison but the Tremic 3560 is good for 450bhp should you go there so you have to be a little patient with it.
Mine clonks but you will find you can avoid them after using the car for a little while.
Don't know about c/locking or the induction kit, but there are lots of info on the site, and people willing to help.
There are two types of back boxes around I know of the Zero's loved them on my car but my Tinitus did'nt, others will be along to advise on the types and contacts I am sure.
Enjoy the driving and the forum

Hi and welcome

If you want to keep the twin tail pipes consider the Zero's. Info on the forum.
Doorlock not sure, could be a faulty receiver.
Gearbox, bit agricultural but as said, strong...
Clonk can be avoided after you get used to the car.........

Anyway, enjoy, get the questionnaire back to Tim and get access to the whole forum

Hi welcome along. I have the zeros. Not quite as loud as the xpowers, but have a really great deep sound that turns into a roar at 4000. What's the last 3 digits of you vin?

Hi and welcome , regarding the gearbox you will get used to it!! try changing the oil it made mine smoother, also better change diff oil, from memory mine seemed smoother after wards, plus it should have been changed after the initial 1000 miles then after
something like 150000 miles but some dealers missed it

ColinE

Dreadnoughts recommendation for the diff is after 1000 miles and then every 15000

Was never documented by MGR

Agree gearbox can feel better after an oil change

Hello and welcome. I've got the Zeros as well, and love the noise, although I've never heard the x-powers or any others in the flesh to compare them. I've only ever seen one other 260 in my life in fact!!

Thanks for the replies, Is it possible I could be sent the form again as I cant find it in my E-mails. Checked my Chassis no and the last three digits are 002... Dont know whether to be elated or worried! Does this mean it is the second car off the line? but It is the facelifted model on an 06 plate so what is going on?:~ Checked for any bad history and there is none..

Any help much apreciated..

Yes a specal car. I'm guessing that you bought it from Eddie Wright - I went to look at it a few months ago. Car was in superb condition. Sold by Hartwells in 06, I believe, but originally built in 02.
Welcome! :)

Extract from my original thread:

"I went to see this on Tuesday as I was in the area, well Doncaster anyway!

It is definitely 002. Like 003, it still has Prodrive labels and it also has a chassis plate with no details of paint/trim codes.

The garage has had the car since August 2008, indeed it is now registered in their name and in total has had five owners - the previous one owning it for just one week! I'm guessing that this might have had something to do with the car's quirkiness and all this since Hartwells sold it 'new' in 2006. The salesman told me that when he joined two years ago, 002 was parked outside but it is now in the showroom. He seemed unaware that this 06 car was actually built in 2002.

On the plus side the car is in near immaculate condition, albeit a facelift on the outside (except for bullet mirrors, straights wheels and bootlid) and a Mark One on the inside, aside from a technical grey gear lever trip panel, which is loose. It has full leather with heated, but manual seats. I also noted that the engine dipstick is in an odd place and it has a rear anti-roll bar. 19,600 is the recorded mileage.

The car is now priced at £7999 (a pound off) and this is what they want for it - not a bean less. Apparently the boss is a car enthusiast and if it doesn't sell, then he is not bothered. I did not have £7999 so, in News Of The World speak, I made my excuses and left. "

as people say, its not a 2006 car, and as number 002, there will be some unique items no doubt.

Good luck :thumb

Welcome! What a unique car, with an interesting history. Would be worth a specialist insurance policy, such as a classic policy, with an agreed value. Plenty of info on here on that and all sorts of other things. Please post some pics, too!

Sorry have not been on for a while I have been away. I will send you my E-mail address now colin. I am really pleased that It is 002! I will post some pictures of it soon. So my plans at the moment are to upgrade the exhausts to the X-powers I have decided these are the ones for me. I looked at the sound of the quads and the lower end is where I need the sound. Paint needs touching up in a few places and I will we changing all the fluids shortly.
I was going to use mobil 1 for the engine what grade of oil is best? but does anybody have any recomendations concering the gearbox oil an diff?
Thanks all for your input and advice regarding the car. Really cleared things up for me.
