Now then guys,

I am 22 years old and looking to buy a zt260. Only trouble is, the insurance regulations have just altered for under 25's. My last insurance quote was a reasonable £1500 but now it seems the cheapest I can get is £2200. I have no convictions on my licence which I have held since 17 years old. I have also never had any claims for insurance. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to get a better quote? I have tried confused.com, which gave me the £2200 as the best. My current insurer, Aviva have said they are unable to provide me with a quote :/

Any advice would be greatly received, as I would love to own one of these epic machines.

Cheers, Chris

Have you tried Peter Best insurance, not sure if they deal with younger drivers, but they might be able to insure it under a classic policy iof you dont do much mileage

Peter Best wouldn't even quote me as I was under 30 since the insurance changes.

I went with Adrian Flux in the end (I'm 29 though)

Unfortunately Chris. The cooky is not crumbling in a good way at the mo. Due to my cars paint Job being ruined earlier this year by a vandal, I've lost 9 years no claimes and am paying £1100 per year on mine now from £600 unlimited milage.

I hate to say it, you may struggle to find better than £1500 PA.

However, the very best of luck Chris.

Try Admiral Direct or Performance Direct.....

Admiral or Elephant I reckon. I was 21 when I got mine (last year) and paid around £1400 and this year that's gone down to £1100 (now 22), both with Elephant but I think Admiral are pretty much the same company. Oh, that was 2 and 3 years NCB, respectively, with no limit on mileage and no claims/convictions.

HTH

P.S. Not sure if this is still the case, but when I first got mine, there was a £500 per annum increase (!) for SE over non-SE.

Admiral, Elephant or Bell. Oddly they do give different quotes despite being the same group. I also was with Bell when i first got the car for 2 years, then when i wanted to declare my "new" throttle body they wouldn't touch it. So looked around, Adrian Flux did not only insure all my mods, but are also £300 a year cheaper with only £150 excess.

Got the car at 23 was paying like Simon about £1400, then 24 was about £1300 and now paying £1100. Change my occupation and think iirc it shaves another £150/£200 off. Also paying that with two years NCB and 1 accident technically my fault, and another that most definatly was not lol!

It does annoy me when someone has been driving since 17 with no convictions etc... yet they still penalise them. My brother is the same, 6 years NCB no accidents or convictions and still pays through the nose on a diesel vectra :(

£1500 to me is not reasonable
but othoh when I was your age I could not have even contemplated running something like a 260, that like the other performance cars I have owned came over a period of time and funds permitting

I find the £270 I pay to insure my 260 quite steep enough.
I run three cars and have been driving without claim or accident for over 35 years I feel I have paid more than enough over the years for a bit of paper and to prop up the accident prone and uninsured types out there.

I think there ought to be a mega no claims bonus - 25 years and the insurance should then be free

That would pee them all off a bit!

My daughter was just quoted £2835 for her Suzuki Swift 1.3 by Diamond (also part of Admiral/Bell/Elephant). Bell quoted her a shade under £1300 on confused.com. When she contacted Bell to make sure they had all the correct details the finally said that it would be better to stay with Diamond who then price matched Bell after the agent passed her through to them. She finally got her insurance for £1243.

And we think banks are a bunch of cowboys.

thanks for the advice guys. i have just looked on temporary insurance cover sites (to cover me going to test drive one) and the youngest i can be to be covered is 23 so i guess i'm out of the loop for another 8 months :/ still i guess it will give me more time to save to cover for fully comp insurance.

£1500 to me was reasonable because at the age of 17 i acquired a brand new kia picanto 1.0 (which i still have as my daily driver) and i was paying £1800 on it then as it was a "new car and new driver" (it only cost £4995 to buy!). On the other hand, i also have a classic mini cooper sport 500 which does little mileage a year (only goes out in fine weather) and that is insured for £330 per year *shrugs* lol the comment bout the banks/ cowboys made me laugh

Stick your mum on your policy as a named driver, usually helps a little. Also consider doing pass plus and/or IAM if you haven't already. My best 260 quote is around £1300 but then I've had a bump that was own fault which doesn't help and I'm 27 with 7+ years of no claims. Insurance is always creeping up though, my cover on my IS200 went up £95 for no reason the last renewal.
Being under 30 sucks hard for anything tasty to drive.

It's sucky for all Of us I'm afraid. Not helped by vandals, theives and the uninsured. Mind you. The insurance companies are the biggest bunch of pirates this side of tortuger.

wouldn't say its that bad, i was insuring my 260 for about £800 before i sold it, and my cerbera is around the same, 11 years no claims. what does suck is that my 11 year old jeep with 108k on it has to be insured using completely new no claims as you can't use now claims on two cars, although did managed to get the insurance company to match them which brought it down.

Just renewed with NFU Mutual, Myself and Wife as nameddrivers. Fully comp, protected NCD, £250 excess plus £100high performance excess, No mileage limit but I told them 3k, coveredsocial, domestic and pleasure purposes and commuting. Use by any entitleddriver for the policy holders business and use other than the policyholdersbusiness.
Exclusions: commercial traveling, racing, speed testing, competition, rallies (other than treasure hunts) track days, hire orreward, or for any purpose in connection with the motor trade.
Allfor the sum of £498.48 plus insurance premium tax.

I probably helps that I have max no claims and live in a semi rural area, It maybe that reaching the age of 53 helps. The NFU also have a sliding discount depending on how many years you have held a policy with them.

When I tried a comparison web site only one firm would entertain me at £1,700 !

Both the MGB's are insured with Peter Best.

Well I abandoned Admiral who attempted to rip me off on my renewal again, and as you all know I dont rate them when it comes to a claim!

The good news was I reinsured with Direct Line (by the way, Churchill is same company it seems!) as a 2nd policy as wife is with Direct line now also.

My policy was £446, compared to Admirals reneewal quote of £900 odd (was 700 last year).

So i'm chuffed - and the LPG didnt affect the premium at all.

Just to mention, Direct line have an introductory 10 months for price of 12 so you get a further discount which does seem to have made a difference, and then 10% off for having a 2nd car insured with them. Thumbs up so far ;)

Flukely got on peter best insurance just before they increased minimum age to 30. Paying around... umm... under 600. cant remember. 480? Previously was with elephant/admiral. They wanted 1100 this year after coming down to about 800 before the changes.

Oh, and I've easily paid for a supercharger in insurance in the 7 years I've been insured....

No idea if this will help or not, but i heard about a new insurer who specialises in young drivers - they are called Woop, but beyond this (& the fact i've seen a couple of vinyled up Fiat 500s locally to me - in Thaxted, Essex), i don't know much more.

EDIT: Just found their facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/woopcover?sk=app_159237157423118

They are VERY new though, but might be worth a punt.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing is..NOT how much is the Premium p.a. etc... but.. WHAT WILL YOU GET IN A "RIGHT OFF" SITU !! No good saving two or three hundred quid, but LOSING two or thee GRAND.. when your "pay off" cheque arrives in the post. I KNOW.. been there got the T-shirt !!!
I use the NFU. They are right at the lowest end of all the crap compare sights ! PLUS.. they are excellent on" RIGHT OFF" amounts. You speak to an engineer directly, NOT some twat chewing gum, whilst they are looking on Auto Trader .. to see cheapest possible matching year/ model to yours !! AND.. they are really polite and pleasant people ( NO I'm not on commission ! ) I don't want to give my dosh to some ignorant s~d's. One thing that's the big " bummer " these day's, Accident/ Claim wise.. is the extremely low right off per centage calculation's the Insurance lot are using. AND.. with very low 260 prices flashine up on the for sale sights.. 5K etc !!!... ANY fairly minor prang.. could result in a 5k , minus £ 350 or so "excess ", for you mint 260 pay off !!
Another interesting point.. home mechanics beware .. if you have not got an up to date S/H on the car.. claim awards are knocked down quite alot !!
I had a mint con Nissan 200sx Turbo. 38K . previous owner was a master mech/ tec for 40 yrs- had done all work himself..to a superb standard. i had spent a fair bit on c/b change. lots os servicing.. BUT ..done my a mech/ tec.. " on the side " !! So ..no proof of servicing. Guess what, got lowest posssible book price !! After two 14yr old " boys " had dumped it after joy riding in it for a week. !!
B U T.. on my last " right off " , no I don't have much luck do I !, I reeceived., from NFU, an excellent cheque at the end of the day.. BECAUSE.. I had kept every single receipt possible for everthing ever done to the car.... plus I'd spent a week, going through every sold/ for sale matching car/ similar car.. to mine. When they had to fax my receipts bundle/ back up data through to H/O in the Ins broker.. it took em half an hour on the fax machine !!! BUT.. I got a proper/ fair cheque in the end !
That car, my last before current 260, was a very rare, absolutely mint/ concours condition, Toyota Aristo . A Lexus GS300 with a 320 bhp Twin Turbo Supra motor in. It was a 1994 vintage, never had any paint done, the nipps had loving cared for it in nipp land, was previously owned by one of those head to toe, Carp tattoo'd gangster's !! Unfortunately, some" scum" decided to " walk" over it !! A dented roof, is impossible to repair in most cases, and on a rare car with no replacement panel available.. your buggerred !! This is were our muslim mates have got it correct.. because in shaira law land ( wrong spelling ! ) if caught.. these b******ds would have had their FEET cut off ( feet.. because the damage was inflicted by their .. feet.. yes !! )
Anyway, that's enough verbal garbage to bore everone this afternoon ! God Bless. ZT PONY !!

I lIke a good rant. You fill ya boots chum. If it makes you smile I know where the git lives who pored nitro morse all over my car earlier this year. You gotta wait till they think they got away with it. Then, I guarantee, he will find out that thermite is way way better than paint stripper.

Anyway sorry,carry on lads. ~~~~~~~~~~
