<B> Editorial for Odyssey Tour 2011

MGFIM 2011
The weekend was great, meeting up with MGers from past years,
The drives that were organised around Germany were a treat, and the comradeship wonderful.

Everywhere we went, we had stares of unbelief as we passed by, Not just one rare car, but a set of 5 roaring past.

Museum
Speyer was the Technology Museum with a fantastic display of trains and boats and planes...... motorcycles. space crafts, bicycles, submarines, toys, lorries, steam rollers, tractors, fair ground organs and static machinery.

On route
Just before the German border we had stopped in a lay by to stretch legs, a car pulled up behind us. two men got out and showed us ID cards of border police, they asked for passports and car details, after we gave them, the men got in their car to check them??, I suggested we move in front of the plain car just in case, eventually we got our paperwork back and I had to insist that they look at my engine. ?You will look my engine? J

Tunnels
The tunnels were one of the highlights of the trip. Long strips of enclosed road to enjoy the rich tones of our exhaust notes.

On the mountain passes.
The runs up and down the mountains were a dream. We even got to go over the Stelvio Pass this year, previous years I have been in the area, there was too much snow in June and the Pass was closed.

This year we were very lucky, most of the mountain passes we went over were virtually empty of traffic.
A few cars and motorcycles were driving more progressively than us, but we let them over take quickly leaving us to enjoy the never ending views.

I took some videos of the cars on the mountain roads,
When taking these I had to race up the mountain J to get a distance between us so I could stop and shoot the drive bys.

Taking the video of a night run down the mountain, had me wait at the top shooting the video as the gang went down the mountain, then to race down the mountain to catch up J . This was the hairiest moment for me as the engine was racing at 4-5500 rpm to get the best engine braking and instant power out of the corners and on some of the corners due to the dark and lack of vegetation, the road merged into the sides and it as very difficult to see where I was going at speed. The car definitely looked after me.

The most amazing thing was that regularly we passed cyclists of the OAP age cycling up the mountains.

Prague and Budapest were amazing cities, so much to see.
The resturant in Budapest turned out to have a local Jazz Band with the residents of Budapest dancing in the area outside the resturant, They do this almost every night the band is playing. Often the whole dance troupe did some sequencing dancing. Fantastic.

Croasia
Swimming in the Adreatic Sea was fun.

The Ring
We decided against "The Ring" as it started to rain just as we were agreeing to go. Shame, but The Ring in the rain is not the place to drive.

Hotels
Thanks to Colintf the hotels were sorted and no one had to sleep in the car.

Petrol
Up to 1.6 euros, but as low as 1.08 in a tax free village/town.

Beer
Yes, we sampled some/lots of the local brews. I don't remember names.
