After sorting another set of Apex's I have an almost perfect Hairpin 18" alloy for sale.

There are two minor marks on an otherwise perfect rim. Along with Conti M3 225/45/18 with only a few hundred miles on.

I am looking for £190 plus postage but would rather handover as its going to be a pain rim and tyre together.

If there are no takers will put on the 75&ZT next week.

Point to note: this alloy is not rated for the V8 so can only go on a FWD ZT/75.

That is a joke, right:confused:
I've never heard of rated alloys.

No joke, some of the ZT alloys cannot take the torque from the 260

how much for just the tyre Tim?

I am tempted to take a spare tyre in addition to the spare on a wheel that I have on our European tour.

Well a new tyre alone without fitting is £160!! So really thats like a hairpin for only £30 or about £16 if you include fitting the tyre!

Out of interest, was there any official line that the hairpins weren't suitable for the V8's, or is it speculation? Or did MG Rover not approve them simply because they didn't intend to use them on our vehicles to differentiate them from the rest of the range? They were standard on 190's and 190 ZTT's (more weight in the tourer). I understand that the V8's produce more torque, but the 190 V6's aren't far behind. Also, look at any of the online wheel websites and nobody I have found has differentiated between different ZT's for suitability. Surely some of the aftermarket wheels on offer, in a similar style, will not be any stronger than the OE hairpins. I have covered 100k in my CDTi ZTT over some appalling roads and often with a loaded car and have never had any issues with the hairpins. My theory is that the hairpins - particularly in a good colour, are one of the best looking MGR alloys, and would like to use them on my V8.

It was not that they said the wheel was not good enough just that the wheel had never been tested so could not confirm that the hairpin could take the extra load. Where as the apex, 11 & 16 straight and gridspoke had been tested. I'm no expert on wheels etc but I would not want to be thinking about the wheel when giving it some beans, but I think you may be right about the durability of the hairpin on the 260 but with the 400 I'll stick to the Apex.

Then again Tim, Apex have never been tested on the 400, so shouldn't the same apply?

Don't give me the heby-gebies.

Agree, be interesting to see what the test results were as they must have tested to destruction.

Never checked to be honest but some wheels have the load index casted into them.
Maybe ours have as well, or the hairpins, which might help

Torque is not the limiting factor, it is the ability to carry the car.
