One for sale with low mileage. I think there may be a case for false advertising on the BHP claim after a TB and Exhaust upgrade though (check out the Q&A's)

I have sent this message to him:

Dear simon-3256,

Your statements on the BHP increases are very very wrong.

Can you safely 'chip' a standard engine to 290bhp?

None of us has a chip.

It has been spoken about quite a few times.

Rolling Roads are (we have found) quite different on their results depending on the season, daily conditions and the time of day.;)

I think if a chip, or indeed decent engine remap can get those results considering if it a) can be done and b) get those results, a fair few of us may be tempted to get it done! ;)

Mine has a Unichip and with the 78mm TB, Zeros and UDP's it got to about 300 Bhp NA but was conservatively mapped due to the nitrous. An Aussie Superchips franchise claim about a 30 Bhp increase just from a rechip?

It is quite common for a semi performance engine to be chipped to produce an extra 25/30bhp.Superchips in Buckingham supply chips for all kinds of vehicles and they chipped my Lotus Carlton back in late 90s :)from 369bhp to 410bhp with a before and after RR run.

Mine has a BBK TB, Xpower zorsts, and a very big foam filter with large bore ducting picking air up form low down away from the heat. A RR run put mine at something like 282bhp.

So going by this "suggested" increase, the unichip would give me 70bhp? - Wishful thinking . . . .

Hi Chaps

Andy - FYI - the last no.s of the CH is 000224

hope this helps.

i get Monaros re-mapped by an american V8 specialist and they increase the bhp by approx 10 %. they are done properly by tweaking the files in the ECU - improves power, throttle response and MPG, so better all round.

if this MG has had an external chip fitted this will increase bhp but MPG will be dreadfull as all the chip does is confuse the ECU in terms of temp of engine so it increases the fuel intake permanently and this can causes running problems longterm.

He has also tried in the past to re-map 2 x 260's but their ECU's are locked out by prodrive software, so cannot access the files to ammend.

regards

JB

At least one guy on here has had his remapped by Jamsport! Another most recently fitted a KB supercharger and chip and reported all ok and passed the MOT sniffer test ok.You can access with the correct s/w,but it appears to be a "taboo" subject regarding the 260 in doing any remapping.I think owners need to broaden their horizons on what is possible as we have been told by others who have achieved.
Having owned a HSV with the LS1 engine, nearly 10 years ago with LS1 Edit then EFIlive I was remapping mine and others, when ECUs were being so called locked by others. Many people about who can unlock and reprogram. We are in the 21st century after all,but still prefer negative views it seems on this subject.

I am all in favour of finding a way to reliably tune the engine. One-offs, regardsless of how successful, just prove the point you can tinker with everything having the right tools. Long term reliability is something entirely different.

I have tuning software for my Alfa (KWP2000) and mapping software (ECM2k1) and am sure I can get my hands on the stuff that talks to the V8. Until a re-map is proven to be reliable I will not upload anything or pay north of 250 quid to get it done.

Still broaden the horizon and look at proven ways of tuning is still something I favour

'fraid I'm a luddite when it comes to tuning so I rely on those that know a damned sight more than me and are happy to help me when the brown stuff hits the rotating thing

Jam sport did my remaps (2nd one done free of charge) now done 20K and works
brilliantly, I think they can do a standard 260 as well but not sure of the results.

Where are Jam Sport?

My Unichip will remap the ECU again for final tuning and I will hopefully post the dyno results this time.
