Too many - the car is too big to be red (IMHO)...

Just think, what are the most inappropriate cars on the road - red Jag, red Merc, red Bentley (eeeuuuurgh). You get my drift...

Personally I try to avoid red cars, every accident I have ever had, I have been driving a red car or hit one! :ash

That said I think the ZT looks good in red, saw one today (Non V8) and it looks nice.

It was reported elsewhere (http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=278047&page=2#post3205729):

18 Total:
Mk1 Saloons - 6
Mk1 Tourers - 1 Dev car
Mk2 Saloons - 6
Mk2 Tourers - 5

10 of the above being SE's

It's a matter of personal taste - Solar Red is my favourite colour!

When I bought my brand new V6 I said the one colour it would not be was red - and so what did I buy ................................... red!

My ZT190 was Solar red and I loved it, would have had 260 in that colour as well if it had been available at the time.

Having said that it was a really unlucky car!

Nothing wrong with red better than black or common silver. Anyway i like my Rio Red V8 looks nice with my shiny rocker covers!

Mines a mk11 Solar red (222) looks nice especially after a few waxs. The only colour to have in my book!

Red is nice, just not Solar Red imo - or any solid Red. Metallic or Pearlescent just adds a bit of variation to the colour so its not just a big slab of one colour.

I'm a little confused over the difference between Solar Red & Rio Red. I know they are different paint codes (CMU & CQC), but did they make both Solar Red & Rio Red 260s? The ZT Mk2 brochure I have only mentions Rio Red as an option, but a lot of posters above talk about Solar Red cars.

Any clue as to which is which in the following examples?

219 (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1808494.htm)
862 (https://www.two-sixties.co.uk/mgoc260/html/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2118&ppuser=8501)

Does anyone have a side by side comparison of the colours?

Thanks

Brilliant resource - thanks Tony :thumb

The difference between Solar & Rio Red is subtle, but I think I see it now - Solar Red has a hint of orange, whereas Rio Red is more (what I would call) cherry red.

Can I ask the same question as Barry asked, but for Rio Red:

How many Rio Red V8s were made, Mark 1 and 2 / SE and non-SE?

Thanks

Rio Red replaced Solar Red and so most Mk II ZT 260's should be in Rio Red, however any early registered Mk II's could be in Solar Red. The paint code off the L/H door post should help.
