No pictures, rubbish description, and a zero rated seller.

A complete Noob or a Scam springs to mind

I have spoken to him on the telephone and he comes across as a real genuine man (aged 71). As I am local I wanted to view the car tonight but because someone is coming down tomorrow Tuesday from Birmingham who has first shout, I have to wait until this guy has made up his mind. I reckon he'll buy it.

If the car is genuine, then I guess it won't hang around. I also hope it goes to a genuine buyer and not a trader who then puts it back up for sale at 9K.

I bid on this and met his reserve this morning. When I phoned up to arrange collection 5 mins later, he told me someone else is coming to view it that same morning and that they would have first dibs - didn't hear back. Very curt in his tone too. Never mind - thought I was back in the fold :o(

According to how the (closed) listing reads now, it was a classified ad, not an auction, so the rules are different. He is entitled to sell it somewhere else if he wants.

"This is a classified ad (http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/buyer-ads.html) listing. There is no bidding on this item, so contact the seller for more information."

Congratulations! I half wish I'd gone to take a look now, rather than being so skeptical. But I really want an SE. At least it gives me hope that something nice within my budget will turn up if I wait a while.

Looking forward to the details!

Very curt in his tone too.
He's probably sick of his phone ringing :D

Yes it was - it was a best offer scenario. I entered an amount and won - I received two e-mails from e-bay saying you have won this item. It shows differently now as when you win, the buy-it-now price disappears.

obviously not meant to be Steve, but very frustrating.

Hope you find the right car for you soon!

It was a classified listing and ebay now offer a 'Best Offer' option. No contractual obligation nor any resort to feedback etc. Example here:

Shame you can't see the offers that have been made/rejected.

... but it was it worth! After my first ride to Bristol area with my VW T4 two weeks ago to see that incredible 260, I collected it a weekend later. I felt so exited! Yes, I´m experienced in driving in britain in my own car. But this one is a RHD, and the most amazing car I´ve ever sat in. Everything is on the wrong side. Drivers seat, gearshift, mirrors etc. Ken collected me at Bristol airport that day with his 4x4 Landy and after having a coffee and counting the amount in 50 Pound notes onto the living room table, I started my trip back to germany. I had to hurry to get the train via eurotunnel - you can imagine the M25 is almost an adventure, day and night. I arrived hardly in time, first chance to see the toilet after hours;-) When entering the train, I had to move slow and softly, just playing a little bit with the gas pedal. Ok, we did the rest from calais to bremen in six and a half hours and arrived sunday morning at 2am. Nothing went wrong, I´ve had more stops for refueling than ever on that distance with my T4 TDI ...but it was it worth! Klaus
