I wanted to say hello as i became a member yesterday. I recently became the owner of a nice silver ZT260 (LPG). I have been a user of the mg-rover.org site for a number of years, so some of you may know me (although i dont post as often as i should).

I have previously been the owner of a 75 contemporary, and zt 190 immediatly prior to the 260.

Looking forward to joining you guys.

My ownership has been dealt a bit of a blow today as my 260 broke down and ended up having to be towed to the local specialist garage (Beech Hill nr Reading). I have no clue whats up with it but fingers crossed it wont be too bad. I am a bit worried thought. It just coughed and spluttered, stalled and refused to start again.

I'm sure the guys will sort it. If anyone can advise of a cause of similar incidents i would appreciate it.

Talk soon!

Graham

Have them check that the fuel filter clip has been fitted in the tank. If it hasn't, the filter can come apart and cause the symptoms you experienced. It is an orange clip securing the top to the bottom.

Not Rossys old car by any chance?

Welcome Graham
Hope it is something as simple as the fuel clip.

Hi Keith

From one worry to another today. It looks like the cause of yesterdays breakdown was a split lpg pipe. Looks like this has turned out to be a pretty easy fix and should have the car back in a few days. This may explain the poor mpg i have been getting as well.

Not sure about it being the one with the noisy diff. I hope not. How would this noisy diff present itself (i presume there is a noise to listen out for). Would it be anything i should get sorted?

I know the car i bought was on Ebay, although i bought it direct from the garage. I believe it was on the sales section on here a few weeks ago. The one i have is silver, LPG, towbar, SE spec, Accufab TB, good bodywork, 30k ish on the clock,

Thanks for all the welcome massages.

Many Thanks Tim, I definitly dont have Rossy's car. Had me worried though. what are the chances of two silver lpg 260's being on Ebay in the last three weeks? Should have said that mine was mk2.

I am going to have a drink now!

Seems odd to me that it wouldn't start on petrol. :(

Tell us what the LPG consumption is and how driving it with petrol selected and LPG selected compares.

I am tempted to get a conversion kit and fit it myself. It doesnt look like rocket science.

Hi Andy, there isn't any problem towing our cars. It should be kept to a max distance of 30 miles at a max speed of 30mph for Automatics though - as the oil pump will not be operating.

I have nearly 50,000 miles on LPG and there really is no difference between driving on petrol and LPG, sorry that's wrong, there is one HUGE difference, fill ups cost me £35 for 70 litres :drive

Don't know if I would fancy fitting it myself though, Bernard LPG's your man.

I weighed up getting an LPG kit fitted, but it simply wouldn't pay for itself quickly enough. No point waiting 3 years for it to pay for itself when in 3 years the duty will probably have gone up to match petrol anyway as LPG isn't as green as they had us believe.
