my a/c compressor locked up yesterday at 52000k on my early mk2.

the ancillary belt snapped on start up just after a motorway run.

Warning to all, i had noticed a slight noise for a week or so only when going around a corner and only when the a/c is on. Thought it was related to the heater fan but it was the drive belt struggling with the extra drag from the failing compressor. On recollection there was also a faint odour of hot rubber. If you notice either get it looked at quick.

My local a/c specialists in leicester have experiance with the zt260 and are going to sort it all out. They warn against buying ebay replacement pump. They say its probably a far east copy and wont last 5 mins. Becuase the pump has locked, chances are the system will need flushing and the evaporator valve and collector will need replacing. Deepnds on the nature of the failure.

They think the pump failure could be due to the rad fan resistor failing, where i can get the upgrade resistor? The rating is 100watt 0.3 ohm. Is it a trip to maplins? I don't know if the fans gone yet, it definately ran at full speed.

The cost is going to be £525.00 inc parts vat and pick up. warranted for two years as long as i have the unit serviced with them after one year (35.00). It'll hurt but all things considered, i dont think it's to bad. The outfit is cool running in leicester and know the 260. I'll post when its alldone.

Ironically just fininshed paying the finance off last week! The repair isn't going to be that much more than my repayments were.

Must earn some more money, anyone want planing permission for an extension? or i do a nice line of new houses in your back garden, any takers?
