Hi

Can anyone give me a few tips on fitting a new serpentine belt.

Is it really as simple and pulling the tensioner back using a 3/8 drive, taking old belt off and putting new on.

Does the tensioner need slackening before pulling back

Any help would be appreciated

Many thanks

Duncan

Duncan,

Thought you sold your 260?
Anyway when I changed mine it was as simple as you suggested just pulling the tensioner back. Might be worth drawing yourself a little diagram showing you which way the belt runs before you take the old one off.

That beats the hell out of the V6 ZT....:D...just think of all that petrol £550 would buy...at least a week's worth!:)

Nick fitted the new belt to mine in about 5 mins! Pull the tensioner back and take it off, do the same and put it back on.. that simple really.

What is pulley wheel 6 on the diagram above? Mine has just burned through my serpentine belt and I am stuck at Watford Gap services. Anything i can tell the AA when they arrive woule be handy...

Worst scenario !!!! Aircon compressor pulley is #6.Was aircon on??? If so could be compressor seized. If off then pulley bearing suspect!!!

As SVR has said it is the A/C compressor.

I carry a spare serpentine belt and also a A/C compressor delete idler wheel.http://www.jegs.com/i/Ford-Racing/397/M-19216-D46/10002/-1?parentProductId=

This is a free spinning wheel that you bolt on in place of the compressor. you then put the new serpentine belt on and you are mobile again.

If you need to use your car while you are waiting for a new compressor, you are welcome to borrow it.
