i would suggest giving Austins a ring for advice, they were able to source one for me recently - very expensive. However i think he said it was the last one / very limited supply

I have been told that it has now been superceded by this one:

Took about ten days from order and totalled out at about £260 (without labour!)"

Real Steel is alright, although they supplied me with the wrong seal for the gearbox. Just make sure the kit comes with alignment tool and pilot bearing. Without alignment tool fitting is a b*tch

Still prefer LuK as the car seems to be fitted with these as standard

Real Steel is a good company, but their knowledge of the later stuff is a bit sketchy. I have been standing in front of my engine on my Mustang looking at the head bolts entering the water jacket, and have had Reel Steel on the phone telling me the bolts DO NOT ENTER the water jacket. And have also been supplied with wrong parts for a latemodel car.

So I would double check they are sending you the right parts, Although with the clutch I think the clutch parts fit a variety of gearboxes so you should be OK.

hi chrissyboy - did you fit the clutch kit from realsteel and was all ok? sounds like a decent option and hassle free compared to sourcing from US.

I need to order something double quick time so If i know yours fitted correctly and all bits needed were supplied, and it drives the same then i'll go for it......

cheers

hi aaron, haven't fit new clutch kit yet. Real steel didn't list it for zt 260 but listed one for 2000/2004 ford mustang 4.6 16 valve fitted with 5 speed tremec 3650 gearbox. This kit comes with a standard release bearing so you would have to source a hydraulic one as fitted to our cars. won't be replacing mine till over the winter when the car is off the road.:cflag:cflag:cflag:cflag

Sachs is on a par, if not better than OEM. It is fitted as OEM on a number of brands. I think Ford used LuK as their 1st choice but you can't go wrong with Sachs. They do have replacement clutches for some high powered cars..

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.......please:)

Right, update - I'm going for the Sachs kit as chrissyboy has bought.

Sachs is part of the ZF group who makes well known transmissions for high end cars like BMW etc so I beleive they make quality stuff. These kits seem to be well over $300 in the US so I think £200 all in off the shelf from Real Steel is good value, ans Sachs state them as being to oem spec or better, so should be as good at least as the LuK originals. I hope!

Looked on SACHS Americs website and found the cluch catalogue that confirms kit K70272-02 should be correct for our cars.

This is assuming though that the Ford 4.6 16v engine and TR3650 transimission is the same as that found in the previous generation Mustang GT, 2001-2004 not the current 2005 onwards car, which I hadnt realised until now.

Can anyone confirm this? Judging my these links to wikipedia I assume that to be the case.

Getting the clutch fitted 1st week of September and will report back.

Please note, as Crissyboy pointed out, you do need to seperately source the hydraulic release bearing as the kit comes with std. and this Peter Wayte can source from MGR at about £75 incl vat - so you're looking at £280 ish all in, without having to mess around with US imports, and compares to £415 if oem kit bought from MGR so a good £135 saving.

hmmmm, bought the kit - parts stamped Valeo in the Sachs box? Can't see any reference to Valeo on sachs or ZF's website. Although I think Valeo do make parts seen on Ford cars amounst others.

Chrissyboy, can you check the clutch kit you bought from Real Steel and see if clutch disc and plate are also Valeo - and did your come with alignment tool? mine didnt
