The 05 reg MG ZT V8 SE with LPG is now sold and has gone to an MG / Rover enthusiast in Hampshire. He may well join the Forum. The market for these specialist cars is still quite encouraging as they now represent so much car for your money.

The chap who bought it looked at BMW / Audi but came back to the ZT 260 as he just loved it, although he is still not sure about the X Power Exhausts (a long debatable issue)

I had a lot of interest in it (partly the LPG) but it was difficult to try to deal with anyone who had bought a car is the last 18 months due to what car values had done across the board and they realise that the MG's have dropped but so has their car.

I did have one cheeky (insulting) email from Steve (admin) @ mg-rover.org saying the market for ZT V8's was non-existant and thanks to GB + AD's Road Tax plans (now abolished) that it was only worth £5k !! but i suppose he was just trying it on. I will have as many as he can get for £5k, i suppose we all would.

Hopefully the MG ZT's will stabilise now as i cant see them going much below what they are worth now as they are such good value for the whole package you get (non SE's excluded) and there have been less than 10 ZT V8's for sale at any one time for the last year.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all of you

Whats wrong with non SE cars?

I was specifically looking for a non SE. Mainly because I wanted it to be as light as possible, but also as reliable as possible without equipment that I probably would'nt use, that also might go wrong.
I also prefer the half leather as I feel it is more "sporty" and suits the character of the car.

So it was definetely going to be a standard car for me.

sorry, my comment was what the typical ZT 260 buyer wants ie full spec. I have had only 2 non SE's out of about 25 ZT / ZTT 260's we have sold in the last 2 1/2 yrs.

The cloth inserts on the non SE model seem very cheap and down market and for car to have only elec front windows is very basic.

The std ZT saloon i sold was going to be S/C'd so the chap wanted power and not luxury and the std ZTT i sold had full black / silver grey leather fitted to help sell it.

It was just the most popular remark from what the enquiries i have had when we have had them for sale. The std / base 260 has a very limited market as most people want the V8 with luxury equipment not a car with the same spec as a Rover 25 iL

they should have sold the std model with at least the suede / leather interior and few extras like E/Seats, 4 x E/W and PDC, then it wouldnt seem so basic

Enjoy

regards

JB

I cant understand why MG/R didn't build a plus version of the 260 like the 135+, 190+ etc.

The plus versions massively outsold both the basic and SE versions of the other ZT models

Wind-up windows in a car that cost nearly £30k is bonkers. Think a lot more than 800 cars would have sold if a plus version had been available.

I wouldn't want a sunroof or rubbish sat-nav system. A 260+ would have been ideal!

Nick.

They did, I had a 190+, all electric windows, climate, and the driver intelligence pack (sensors, mpg computer etc..) i think most of the 190's were and the 160's of the ZT range.

Think you mis-read my post.. Thats what i'm saying. Mine and most 190,s and 135's are the plus model. So why didn't MGR build a 260+. It would have been a best seller.

I would agree to a point that they should have been + versions at the very least. But having said that when I decided I was going to have a 260 I wanted SE spec (my ZT-T was + spec), the first car I test drove was #317 which is non-SE. I really went to see it because it was the only suitable one I could find in Scotland, and as I hadn't driven (or been in) a 260 I thought it would be worth checking to see if I liked it before I went down into England car hunting.

In conclusion, after I drove it I just had to have it! the only SE spec things I really wanted was the leather and cruise (although having had the car a while I think cruise control is somehow out of character for the car). I think anyone who has a 260 will agree that the best thing about a 260 is not leather seats or a TV it's how it makes you feel to be driving it, and you get the same feeling regardless of what you're sitting on be it cloth or leather.

PS. I'm not in the back so don't miss electric back windows!:p

Yeah i did, sorry nick :o Yeah i agree, a "non se" was a bit silly for the flagship car.

I was going to go for a non se as i just wanted the V8, but with what was available, i thought i might as well hold out for the SE with some extra toys.... you cant beat all 4 windows down at the flick of the switch, the sunroof open cruising along the country lanes

Agree with KSilver, still I reckon one day the classic that will fetch most money will be the non SE with no electric window probs, no defunct Hi line kit and less of those niggling electrical gadget probs. I you want all that lot buy a rover conn V6 auto, I did for work and I reckon its going to be one of the plushest cars Ill ever own at very little money....:)

I totally agree with you. It would be the non-SE version I would buy. I wouldn't want a sat-nav system from the 90's with a crt screen .lol.
However a plus version would have made sense.

If I had bought a new 260 back in the day, the only options I would have spec'd would have been apex alloys and full leather trim. Didn't even get that in my 190+
