nice car but look at the listing- the pub expert strikes again

It is the facelift model - and is one of the very last before MG went bust - beware of the ZT 260's after 05 plate - they were cobbled together by a company that the receivers bought in with the parts that were left in the factory (yes i did investigate these thoroughly before purchasing it!!) and what you will find on new ones - you may get a face-lift front end with an old rear end, or a face-lift rear on a old front. You often also end up with the older alloys, or rover alloys as opposed to MG ones - quite literally they did cobble them together and i was heavily warned off the slightly newer ones!!

"yes i did investigate these thoroughly before purchasing it!!"

Must have been investigating in the wrong place then, like you say Steve, research in the pub :(

Are those wheels right ?

As he makes a point about the wrong wheels being fitted to some cars I guess the are.

same LPG system as mine - BRC. Interesting wht he says about running lean though as I seem to have that problem. may need a trip to a local LPG specialist........

Not sure what someone's question is saying about front bumper - surely a Mk1 front bumper wouldnt fit around the headlights?

Not the 'standard' mk2 wheel as far as I'm aware thats the apex', but I think theres one or two with the Gridspoke option Wheel.

Strange after all that rambling he dosent mention the (assumed) X-Powers....

Looks nice though, and I'd like the lpg(never gonna afford the S/C :( )
But getting rid of the boot space means its no longer a family 'holiday' car, so kinda defeats the object....

It takes all sorts I guess....

"Cobbled together" Chuckles......

I assumed that was a piss-take.... clearly both bumpers are 'correct', and any 'enthusiast' that 'had researched the Model' would have known that instantly..... NOT needed to 'check' after being 'Worried'

Mission accomplished from the 'asker' IMHO LOL (maybe I read too much into it however)

I've never seen a 260 on gridspoke alloys, are they suitable? I was always under the impression that FWD and RWD cars (generally, rather than 260 specific) required different offsets and that you can't mix and match. I may be wrong maybe someone can enlighten me.

10 gallon LPG tank!!!! Will that be enough to get you to the next station? Refills every 160-180 miles at most. I have LPG and can get 16 gallons in mine (good for 250+ miles) but I don't think I would have bothered with a 10 gallon tank!

Mind you nice looking motor.

He says it's got "every option", but I'm not sure he's got foldy mirrors or the net curtains in the back. I've got an egay account - should I ask? And were he got his information about the cut and shuts after the titsup...

I asked my questions, and this was the reply - suggests to me you might not want to buy one from Elite Car (but I don't want to cast any etc...)

Ahem " You are correct about the rear blind - it doesnt have it. The mirrors to fold, but they are not electric. (wasn't aware of that being an option!)

Regarding the later zt 260's, when i was looking around, there were infact quite a few newer models for sale, but i found it strange that an 06 reg for example had a pre-facelift front end on it, and as i started looking harder at the later cars for sale more and more of them just didnt seem right, one even had rover alloys on as opposed to MG, I found some which were SE spec, but didnt have satnav!! I then found mine for sale at a garage (elite car) who specialised in this type of car, and actually had 3 zt260's for sale, (he nearly allways had an advert in autotrader offering to buy ZT 260's for cash), and infact i have spoken to him about taking mine back, obviously he is only offering trade money @ £6500, which is reasonable money, but i will give it a few weeks on ebay auto trader before taking him up on that. (my next car is alreayd lined up!) anyway... he seemed very knowledgable about these cars, and had sold lots of them. I mentioned to him that i had seen these other newer cars, and he then told me about them, aparently when the receivers came in at Rover, there were lots of parts left over, and to get some of the money back from these parts and unfinished builds, the receivers brought in a company to finish off as many cars as they could, and hence the odd final cars. he had actually been offered a batch of them (because he specialised in them) and at an amazing price, but he turned them down due to the fact they were made up of parts, and so not proper spec, and not just the outside - seats, satnav etc aswell. and on top of the weird spec's - the quality of the build wasnt as good, so he turned them all down, saying he wouldn't touch one, and warned me off."

So, there you go...

The truth is out lads, our cars are made out of parts  , theres no flies on this bloke :)

Im just baffled about this "pre facelift" front end malarky because they were using any old parts? Surley simply looking at the front of the car means it wont fit!

Another ebay goody.

I was looking for a 220 SDi before i went to uni, and found one on ebay. Bloke said wasnt a turbo. So asked a question on ebay saying "They are all turbo'd, but do you mean the intercooled, or non intercooled version?"

I ended up with abuse back, i was going to bid on it, and take a torch etc.. but its not worth the arseache, i just let it lie, was funny though when half the derv heads started e-mailing him afterwards.... every dog ;)

We know there are plenty of early cars around which for one reason or another didn't get registered until much later, but they are Mk1 cars, not Mk2. We also know of a few which do have a bit of a mixture from around the swap over time.

I would imagine the guy is aware of this, but not the reasons for it, so has cobbled this crap together instead?

I have just dropped him a line to ask him if he still has the original factory fit wheels. Given the rest of his claims, I wonder what the answer will be?

ETA - He's quick in his response, I'll give him that! He reckons they were fitted as a factory upgrade. I may be wrong, but I'm sure I remember Rincewind saying only the straights and the Apex were tested for the 260?

Tim

Neil Whilletts solar red 260 had them but he asked for them as an option I believe.

yes it is an LPG switch above the cig lighter as i now have this car in stock for sale @ £8,450 with 63k miles, FMGSH @ www.elitecar.co.uk (http://www.elitecar.co.uk)

The prevoius owner bought it from me last year for £11,500 and it has been traded back in for a peugeot 407 ! i have had many of these and i am not sure where he got his Cobbled together info from (not me), as you say maybe "pub talk". having had many of these for sale from 03 -05 build the very last ones had some strange spec / options but they were always built as MK2's from 04 onwards.

The Grid Spoke Alloys were fitted from new @ MG as a factory option (were in original factory option brochure) as were the memory seats. The LPG was fitted in 2006. yes car still has X Powers and now Bluetooth phone kit

PS - Neils MG ZT 260 in solar red was sold by me aswell in mid 07 on a V8 reg no. but was sadly written off in late 07 and was not repairable and was sold as cat B damaged

further to above ref the "cobbled together" remarks, i note "baldybloke's" comments (sorry i dont know your name) and i take onboard your comment about not buyng a car from me (elite) but feel its a bit unfair as you dont know me or my company. it maybe best to get your facts 100% right before you put it on an open forum, as the statement about the cars being assembled with odd parts etc you have printed was actually from a salesman @ SMC MG dealer and not me. so it was an employee of an MG specialist that was stating that, probably so purchasers would only buy cars from an MG dealer and not independants like myself. i believe that SMC MG did actually buy a block lot of unreg V8 260's from the receivers but i dont know whether they were completed cars or not ?

i have sold over 25 of the ZT / ZTT V8's since 2005, so i have got to know this particluar model quite well and think they are a superb under rated car and shame they stopped making them.

i had one myself last year for 6 months and loved every moment with it. only fault i would say is the T/Control is a little crude in operation but car is more fun with it turned off

Apologies JB - your comments noted. I did say I didn't want to cast any aspersions. Perhaps I read too much into the cobblers comments. If you've sold as many 260s as you say, then you probably know more about them than I do (not difficult). I think I'll go and hide under a rock for a while. Engage brain before gob next time... :o

Thats okay, just wanted to get the facts straight and get my 10 pence worth in. i think its all got exaggerated along the way from pub to pub and ended up stating the cars having been cobbled together !! not even BL used to do that !!

anyone have any idea whats the a good make for front pads and discs and where from for a 260 V8 ? as i believe they are slightly different form the ZT V6 190 brakes ?

JB

the front pads and discs are the same as the 190, the only difference is that the caliper is mounted the other way round, behind the disc instead of infront
