This has been seen on ebay previously and he was looking for more money then - I think it was priced about £1k more when I looked - it was top end money for the motor and I got a better bargain with the black 65000 miler I now have the pleasure in owning and it cost me £2500 less than this advertised for on Pistonheads;)

If your was £2,500 cheaper that probably reflects the fact yours has done the equivalent to nearly 3 additional years worth of mileage. :p

Yeah I know but with one owner from new (not pre-reg) and full service history I,m not complaining, and I,m thoroughly enjoying every minute.
The point was he was asking for more money 6 months ago but someone with that budget will get a great low mileage car - just some of us are spending the extra £2500 on the petrol.

You're right - he was asking for more money a few months ago - what a fool!!

I shall take myself outside for a good talking to! ;)

Bump - new price.

It's a great buy and the Estate SE's with full kit are quite rare.

Come on Guys. There's not a lot of Tourers with low mileage and full spec (which is an absolute must IMHO). The tourers seem to have much stronger prices and hence residuals. I wouldn't entertain buying a saloon - they seem to have taken a hammering (not sure why?) whereas the tourers haven't so much.

These days I'm pottering around in my company car - Honda Civic 2.2 i-cdti and although my thoughts do turn to a big engined car every other hour, I just don't get to really use one anymore as I'm either stuck ion first gear traffic or plodding along the motorway on cruise control!

I use my company car Monday to Friday - SouthWest Trains Leatherhead to Vauxhall. Still manage to take the beast out as often as possible. It's like everything in life... if you want to do it, you can find the time. ;)

I wouldn't disagree with that really. There's always the traffic lights! :)
Biggest kick I used to get out of the car was the sound of it, and that's probably the one single thing I miss most.

Thanks Paul.

Looks good doesn't it. Identical, apart from the seats, to the one I had.
I still think at £10.995 it's cracking value.

Hope you are well

I've really got to sell this car soon - any ideas?
I'm told it's not the price - it's just that no-one's buying and no-one can get finance!!

Thanks Steve. I'll need all the luck I can get. It's such a nice car too. My company Civic Type S is on a 3 year contract - and I've started making enquiries about wriggling out and seeing if anyone else in work wants it! Ive had it 4 months now (a long time for me!!)

Everyone in work knows what I'm like with cars and they knew I'd be like this :p. If I could shift it, I think I'd happily potter round in this ZT-T especially as fuel is back under £1 again. I can't afford to have the two, and seeing as I'm only 10% of the way through my contract, I have no chance of passing the Civic on .............at the moment ;)

Have I missed something or are you trying to sell a car to all the people who've already got one?!!! It's an unusual marketing strategy!

Ha ha! :D It does seem a trifle flawed doesn't it!

There are people on here, some guests, who are keeping a look out for a 260 though. Few and far between at the moment I'd have thunk.

The car has 35 watchers! Means squat though I guess? :(

Wonder if I'll get the post-auction 'I'll give you two shillings, my cat and a packet of sherbert' type e-mails?

I set myself a target when I sold my saloon of getting a tidy ZTT260 Se for 7k tops, next spring perhaps?

A ZT-T260SE for less than £7k? That would have to be seriously worn smooth. I would hope so anyway!

SteveTD
13-11-2008, 09:50 AM
7k? Who knows? They are much more sought after than the saloon though. Choices at the moment appear to be:

2004 non-se with 20k miles for £10k
2004 SE with 76k miles for £10k
2006 SE with 20k miles for £12.5k
or my one:
2004 SE with 30k miles for £9k

See - Bargain!

Seeing as the economic climate is so favourable; the political support for a V8 is so strong; and the time of the year is perfect for selling a car, I thought it was worth giving my advert a bump! :o

John Newey
18-11-2008, 10:11 PM
Steve, I don't agree with your comments about saloons having taken a hammering and estates not. You know as well as I do that each car has to be taken on it's merits and the price should reflect-colour,service history, condition, age etc. Oh and just one more thing-My gas gazzling V8 that keeps getting older and doing more miles has fallen in value? NO, I just won't have it!!

SteveTD
20-11-2008, 10:06 AM
John, The estates are in far less numbers so if the supply/demand rules are to apply, then they will hold their values better. Look at the 14k Rover 75 Estate on Autotrader?! ;) (V Nice example by the way)

However, if we are talking Shot Silk 260 SE Saloon's then I would agree they will too hold their values quite well :D (I'll have it off you when your finished with it :p).
Black, silver and grey saloons which were built in their hundreds - less so.

Currently, the two most expensive V8's are estates - your Rover and an MG ZTT at £12.5k.

Phil
20-11-2008, 10:29 AM
Steve, your opinions on car values and colours are very much your own and people should be aware of that.

Not everyone likes flip paint jobs such as shot silk and the like, me included, and whereas owners of 'rare' paint/colour schemes will be pleased to hear you talking them up, it does not make them more valuable than those colours which were produced in greater numbers, such as X-Power grey, silver and black.
They were produced in greater numbers because those colours are more popular, and therefore in greater, or at least similar demand, car for car.

Rare does not equal valuable. If MGR made 5 cars in flip yellow and 50 in silver, it was because they thought they would sell 10 times as many silver cars. Don't let your enthusiasm for a particular colour scheme cloud your common sense.

I am not trying to get into a debate here, just to level the playing field. The same numbers equation applies to Estates/Saloons.

SteveTD
20-11-2008, 10:55 AM
:o Sorry Phil

We have gone round the houses on this debate over the years haven't we! I never tire of this debate either.

Oh, my common sense was clouded many years ago - nothing to do with cars! :D

BigA
20-11-2008, 04:00 PM
The demand side of the supply/demand equation is not driven by scarcity, it's driven by genuine demand.
You could have the only example of a colour scheme (like the saffron one) but it could easily be worth little if no-one was interested. (Because, for instance, it had cream seats!)

Don't care what mine is worth I just like it. With my dealer discount I paid £28k for mine developed a blower kit for it, will not say how much that cost. Its still the best car I have owned and I have had some very good cars. Still love my little red car though.

guys, you out there who like silver-i can't knock you. those who like flip colours-same applies. I do know that every time I get a flip paint 260 to sell, then it only lasts a week and someone travels miles to snap it up. T he point i'm making is that an estate is not necessarily looked after better than a saloon. I'm on my second flip colour 260 saloon and I'd defy anyone to find a better looked after car than mine (just ask the wife!). Like Brian says it's the best car i've had and I honestly don't know what i could replace it with that would be as good.
