Hi guys,

Just picked up my no. 172 ZT 260 on Saturday, even hung over like hell that morning, i was grinning from ear to ear! HAs the x-power back boxes too which, at first I thought were too loud, but now I love as they draw the attentione it deserves :D

most likely someone on here might know of the car I have bought? cost me £35 to fill the tank as it's LPG converted!

I do have some q's though and I anticipate spending some money on the car.....

Rear tyres: seem to wear on the insides. Is this normal?

front discs: are they the same as the V6 190 325mm ones? where's the nest place to source these?

brakes judder/wobble: related to above? rear discs and pads were replaced recently so its not those. But some times during braking something doesnt feel quite right - again are there any common issues here? I measured the thickness and they are 21.5mm, from what I can find they are 25mm new, 23mm minimum? is this right and could this be the problem and new discs will solve?

Front drivers elec seat - only moves forward/backward, any odeas on fixing so other directions work?

there's a few other bit and bobs but i'll get around to those......oh yah, engine management light is on all the time. Suggestion is this is related to LP conversion and should be ignored. car does seem to run ok. Any ideas?

Thanks all! :)

Hello Aaron,

Said hello over on the x-power-mg forum. does sound as if the front brakes are past there best and are the same as the 190's. Front seat check the plugs underneath, get a 4 wheel laser alignment to check the wheel alignment, as they soundn't wear like that. Heater hose should be shinny, goes from back of engine through the bulk head to the passenger side of the scuttle panel. the only way of knowing if the fuel clip has been done is to lift the rear seat and to remove the covering plate to find the filter

Thanks and hello again.

OK i have ordered some discs from EBC. See if that solves the problem.

I'm gonna go out and remove seat now to see about loose connectors etc. I guess I should disconnect the battery before I do this?

Should I be worried about the fuel clip thing and heater hose - can either be dangerous or of great concern?

One more question - where can I fid the servicing schedule, as in what should be done at what mileage/age - I know about the 5k oil and filter and the 15k inspection but what is the content of the inspection? I also know 2 yrs for brake fluid and 4 for coolant. Timing chain presumably never needs doing?

Hi welcome to 260 ownership.

Ive just done my front discs and pads, got them from the local X part dealer, cheaper alternatives are avaliable but wanted to stay OEM.

I can pop you up the part numbers if you like

Congratulations and welcome to 260 ownership.

The few of us who pilot the Gentleman's carriage version of the 260 are permitted on here also, despite the concealed exhausts:D

Enjoy..........

Rears should wear evenly... a lot of peoples fronts wear on the outside shoulders though...

Fuel clip should have been done by now, would have thought it would have broken down if it hadnt. easy to check, its under the rear seat. Guide somewhere on here :)

Frnt seat - Probably dont have to remove the seat, the connections are just floating about underneth them...
Yeah, disconnect the battery to allow the airbags to discharge or whatever - just make sure the satnav LED has gone out before disconnecting the battery.

Engine light cant be good? worth getting checked out with a T4 diagnostic or LPG specialist? maybe one of the other LPGers floating around here can comment.

Welcome, You'll have few regrets, Xpowers are SS Steel and will probably outlast the car?:(
As a Mark I you may need to check the rear springs as there are posts relating to their quality on this site. If you have a local MGR dealer it may be worth having an experienced inspection, there will be members who can guide you in the right direction. There does appear to be a few terminal issues you may need checked over, that's part of 260 ownership.

Great choice!!

Thanks guys.

oops what was that you said about the sat nav light?! didnt check it before disconecting battery - what happens if it's on? ignition had been off a while though?

Anyway, seat bolts removed so I could tip it backwards to check the wiring - there's a lot going on under there!

On first inspection everything seems to look ok - cant see any obviously loose or disconnected plugs....except for one black one that is at the start where the wiring meets the seat frame and is hanging completely loose - but I cant see exactly where or if this should plug in anywhere - it almost looks like ot is supposed to be like this? like a diagnostic connector or something? could this be the case or could this be the loose rogue plug?

as an aside - can the TV system be overiden so that the TV can be used on the move? This is not for me to use/watch as the driver, but so my wife and kids can watch it.

Cheers

Welcome :)

Check out his whole site, but Spunagain's site has the service schedule,
along with a few common ailments and resources :)

EEEk! About 1500 notes to replace the disc unit. Use your sat nav to see if all is okay.

Don't forget I need your completed questionnaire for you to see the other 80% of the forum. :)

depending on how long it took you to disconnect the battery the unit may be okay. general rule is to leave it 2 minutes although they do shut down quicker, you'll have to try it to see if it works, if it doesn't find a mk3 bmw unit or mk4 dvd unit to replace it with.

Thanks all.

Tim, questionnaire just emailed....

Think hopefully Satnav has survived - I dod leave it at least 2 mins. But looking through the history it looks like there is a fault anyway as previous owner reported sat nave goes off after 5 mins? Havne tried it yet so dont know.....

Anyway good and bad news - took drivers seat right out, checked all wiring, replugged everything, cant see any obvious problems. All back in - no change, except that now it will ty and lower the seat, but its already fully lowered I think so just clicks. Wont raise or move back rest - only forwards backwards. Memory buttins still work though but only forward/backward motion.

Good news is after reconnecting the battery the engine management light has gone out, and stayed off so far whilst running on petrol. Hopefully this proves theres no real issues and hopefull just that it doesnt like the LPG system, though it works and runs fine.

Q. where can I get wiring diagrams from e.g. for the electric seats? so I can start testing things with a multi meter and try and figure it out. Passesnger seat all works fine.

Cheers

Aaron

From your other post on MGR in Epsom, I assume you're fairly close to me. Give me a shout if you want to meet up to poke around mine for comparison purposes.
