Am in the process of evaluating a purchase of a lovely 260 that has been well looked after. However on an inspection it has found to have a broken nearside, lower rear manifold stud that has sheared at the head.
There is slight exhaust blow when cold.
Upon investigation, it was found to be noted as broken by the servicing garage back in 2014 and apparently has not deteriorated.

We are being advised that this is an engine out job to rectify.

Would it be appropriate to leave problem as is or should it be repaired?

Would appreciate any thoughts on the subject!

Thanks, David

Why was this undone by the servicing garage in the first place? What were they repairing / replacing when they broke the stud?

It was just noted on their invoice for totally unrelated work. However, they had taken the engine out a year earlier for replacement clutch related works........

Negotiate a reduction to cover the cost. Dependant on mileage a clutch change whilst it's out?

I saw this mentioned too, David, but assumed that was a A/C compressor clutch being referred to: "Aircon pump, clutch and condenser fitted 79,966 11/09/2013"

"Ford racing Cobra Clutch" was at about 47K in 2008, so say.

How long do clutches last on a 260? No personal experience of course.

Why would the engine be removed for an air con works?

I can't see why it would either. Mis-read of service history / incomplete possibly? Best ask the seller I suppose?
