Hi Everyone
I need to sort my handbrake but I cannot find where to buy a new compensator.
I believe there is a stainless steel one available.
Can anyone point me towards where I can buy one

I also need rear brake pads

Thanks

I've done this job recently and the instructions above are excellent. I found that removing the centre console top lid and tray just gave that little more access for manoeuvre. Put a few photos on my blog at https://mgzt.info/2021/03/23/handbrake-cable-compensater-mod/

As Steve says, the Index description of doing the swap is excellent.

I think this is the correct one; certainly looks right:
BMW MINI ONE COOPER S R50 R52 R53 HANDBRAKE LEVER CABLE CONNECTOR 2001-2006 | eBay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183833786452?hash=item2acd58f854:g:vqUAAOSwQGVc9AD X)

If you do go for the Mini R53 compensator, generally available on eBay, and probably better than the stainless one from Arctic anyway, you should read this thread below though, since there are two different length cables, depending on the year of Mini.

Any good motor factor supplying the make you choose. There are fake pads around on the net though, so take care on line.

Members have different preferences, but personally I use Pagid/Hella pads all-round. The rear Pagid number is T1209.
More background on different pads here:
https://www.two-sixties.co.uk/mgoc260/html/f0rum/showthread.php?2785-Part-Numbers-for-Front-and-Rear-Brake-Pads

Consider replacing the saddle plates and guide/retention pins too:
Lotus Elise version, used on the fronts on the Lotus, rears on our cars of course. Not expensive (that price is for one wheel, though) :
https://www.eliseparts.com/shop/braking/misc/ap-2-pot-front-brake-caliper-plate-pins/

Also Nick at Austin Garages (member 'X13#18') does a complete set of plates/pins/pads, using original MGR pads, SFP000380.

Also look at his description and the photos in that advert, explaining right and wrong pad shapes.

Hi David
thanks for the info.
I have looked at Euro Car Parts but they were not pads for the AP callipers
Hence the question

I buy mine from EBC and use Red Stuff. The last time I orderd I used the ones from a Lotus so they have the correct squared off bottom edge. The ones listed for our cars have a curve at the bottom so you have a few mm of the disc not being touched by the pad.

If you order them from Power stop brakes Chris will know what you are talking about.

As far as fitting the compensater I did mine last year using the Mini part. From beginning to end it was about 2 hours and the worst part was bending the tab that holds it in place on the lever. I resorted to my Dremel with a flexible drive in the end to remove it completely.

At the MOT a few months later my tester reckoned it was the best Handbrake was the best he had ever seen on a ZT ever. 3 clicks and I can leave it on the steepest of hills.

Yes but after some research we found EBC do make the correct pad but it listed for a Lotus.
