Greetings to all!
This friday i purchased my first MG, one that has been on my bucket list for many years. I was searching for a general new car, and was very surprised to find a V8 for sale in Finland. Car looked fundamentally ok, though rather neglected. Ran fine with the exception of warped front discs.
There was no history with the car, but i took a chance because ive always wanted one, and i believe i got a fair price. Im a mechanical engineer so not scared of a bit of work.
Drove her 400km home with no problems. Not as thirsty as my last Ford 4.6, a 95 Tbird.
First thing to the carwash where she promptly leaked like a sieve, both footwells and from inside the dash. A bit of water through the head lining too pulling away. Got home and the left headlight wouldnt turn off.
obviously not thrilled.
I stripped the light switch unit and hairdryed it, went back in fine.
Read online about the sunroof drains so bought some nozzles to join the tubes, spent 4 hours last night taking interior apart and sorting the drains, thats a poor feature! However, its rained all day and the car is dry so i think we got it. Bit concerned about water coming through the headlining though, is that from the drains backing up? The carpet underside is damp but not sodden or wet so we'll give the previous owner the benefit of the doubt as hes always garaged it and not driven in the rain. Perhaps thats why....
Driving home today the battery light has flickered a little, once every 30secs roughly and on for just a nanosecond. Any thoughts on that?
so fundamentally a fine car with a few niggles to iron out.
I shall be driving it occasionally through a Finnish winter so stay tuned for that!
I'd be especially interested in hearing from any Nordic owners for cold weather tips, and ive filled out the Questionnaire, will that get me into the Online shop?

Many thanks.

If you mean the red charge lght flashing for a couple of
milisecs then they all do it. No problem. If it's yellow and complains about voltage then it's a problem with the battery or alternator, normallly the lattter.

The intermittent flashing of the battery light is a glitch in the electronic communication between MGR/BMW and Ford electronics, it was never going to be simple.

The members price for front discs is £130 per pair.

Welcome Jake, I recommend taking up membership of the MGOC. Full access to the two-sixties forum is a valuable asset.

And congratulations for the brave choice ! It is not an easy car to own and run on the continent. But it's possible if you are a handy enthusiast or have a competent (read: old school) and reasonably-priced mechanic. In my honest opinion (some on the 75/ZT website will disagree), the V8 is a smarter choice than the V6, because Ford parts will be more easily available. And the Two-sixties have been very good at re-sourcing or manufacturing V8-specific parts. And of course the sound and handling of the V8 are so much more fun.

One big upside for LHD owners is the ample legroom and the driver footrest.

Thanks for the warm welcome lads, i will certainly get the MGOC membership as soon as i can. Im off to do the last drain tube, cut the rear duckbills off and maybe regrease my front brake caliper pins for kicks.
Enjoying having a fun car again after two years in the four cylinder japanese car wilderness...
Does anyone know of any other owners in Finland?

Here in Finland we have two ZT 260 ;the other is mine and the other is for sale at former Rover dealer who sells still Land Rovers there are also three ZT-T 260 for sale and a Rover V8. These cars have been for sale over 18 months, so the demand is not so big!
One Rover V8 is also on road.
All these cars, except the Rover on the road are former MGRover Germany's demonstrators.
I bought mine directly.
