View Full Version : Potential group buy of replicated 'X-Power Exhausts'

I have spoken to a company called Maniflow in Salisbury about the possibility of re-creating the X-power exhaust.
Having spoken to Janspeed they have told me they only do OEM for manufacturers now and have dumped all the old X-power equipment.
However Maniflow have good contacts at Janspeed so there may be an inside track for them to get a better answer than I did!

Maniflow have asked whether it would be possible to have an original X-Power which they could base their design on - so any generous souls out there?!

Via this thread I would like to gauge interest in a group buy of replicated X-power back boxes.

Expressing an interest is not seen as a commitment to buy

To keep things clear I'll maintain a saloon list and tourer list so we have requirements clear from the start.
Please either PM me or post interest and I'll maintain the list here in post #1. Please state which version you are interested in.

The club can manage and pay the bill from collected receipts like we did for the screens etc. Deposit and outstanding following completion of order.

I'll express an interest in seeing the price /quality etc, but definitely don't include me in any potential group buys at this stage as so many more things ahead of the cue, and unfortunately at leats another 2 years prognosis before being able to return to work :(

But I do miss the sound of my V*, whilst being happy with the versatility and general 'drive' of my motability XC60 D5. So assisting that noise might become more of a necessity on my return to it :)

I have updated post #1 to reflect the latest comments.

At the moment this isn't enough in terms of quantity - but we aren't a million miles off.

I will go to Maniflow with the latest numbers and see what is what.

Hello

I am looking for a complete stainless steel exhaust system for my
260's tourer.

Anyone help?

Eric

There are a few companies that can sort.

I have new back tourer back boxes if you are looking for them that open the sound up but not to the extent where the resonance is horrible. With the tourer be a bit careful as we have had quite a few members with tourers change back boxes etc and have made the car resonance horrible.

Just by way of update - Maniflow have gone very quiet on this. If anyone knows another exhaust specialist that would entertain producing us some replicas please make yourself known! The problem is that I had anticipated a larger order than a dozen or so. I think we need at least two dozen to make it remotely viable for someone.

Recent email from Janspeed:
We no longer have any jigs for these parts as we only ever made a few many many years ago, we have discontinued most xpower parts now.

I then asked whether they had any design information in the archives...to which they replied:
We don't have any information on these as when they were made the first time, a set was made to fit on the car and then a jig was made up to reproduce them, but like I said we no longer have any jigs, sorry.

Steve, may be a long shot but have you tried Custom Chrome in Nuneaton?
They are a relatively small custom exhaust manufacturer and fitter, so may be happier to work with smaller numbers.
The silencers they fitted for me 6-7 years ago are quite tame compared to x-powers as I didn?t what anything too loud, but they have no resonance and great at motorway cruising speeds.
I was pretty impressed with the quality for the cost, fully fitted with a choice of tailpipes, the cost was nearly half what used x-powers were selling for at the time.
Back then the owner of CC was driving a GT500 so had a good idea on what would work on a 260.
May be worth a chat to see if they could build x-power replicas, though they may need to see & hear some to get an idea of what your after.

I have used two companies in Leeds - Tony Law Exhausts in Hunslet (about 30 years ago) and Tony Banks Exhausts in Wortley (only a few years ago).

The latter did a very good job on my ZS. The former did a good job on my Ducati. I would recommend Tony Banks for this job.

Hi Steve,

There is another exhaust firm in the Salsibury area, who I think are still going. Torque Technique at Wilton near Salisbury - they seem to have good reports.
May be worth a call?

Thank you chaps - appreciate the input and recommendations.
Steve - I see you don't live far from me! That makes two Twilight V8's in the locality! (I assume yours is the one that was featured in the press back in 04/05?)

I dont understand why you dont just to to the original makers, Janspeed.

I said years ago about the jigs, but they would make sets using the originals as a template. Not cheap for a pair in isolation, but the costs would be cheaper via a qty. order of course.

When I was looking into it with the X-Power laser etched logo, it was £700 a pair to get them copied from originals.

I think T16 looked into this quite thoroughly a few years back and found Janspeed willing to do some more jigs provided the quantity was enough. I think at the time, owners considered £700 a mite too high!
