Is the owner on here?
Don't think so, but I will try and contact John to see if it is indeed his car, and is a photograph to which he has rights, and, if so, has given permission to the auction house to use it. In any event I will remove/replace the photo in our complete list, to be sure.

I tend to assume that a photo published in that way would be the legal property (or vested right) of the publisher. Not always correct, maybe. Thanks for pointing that out gents !

I've got a reply from John confirming that it is indeed his car in the photo, and that his car is NOT for sale !
He is contacting the Auction house.

Gotta love the internets, where you can't get away with anything.

David

Yep. Could well be though, that if the photo was taken of the car in a public place, like the POL for example, the person who took the photo probably has more rights than John! Depends how it came to be in the auction house's photo library, though.

Strange world ...

M.O.T expires 07/20 with no advisories
Lower tax band
Runs and drives as it should no problems at all
The fuel filter clip has been fitted
Top silicone hose fitted

Yes indeed it appears to be. In fact for a week or so it was on the Car and Classics site at £7,500 as well as on several other sites in advertisements placed by the dealer, all at £9,950. I told the dealer, who rapidly made sure the C&C ad was removed! Didn't bother thanking me though :)

Just seen that the price of the Rover 75 V8 at Hursley Hil & SMG (the Platinum one with only 20 miles on the clock), has been drastically changed from the previous asking price of £29,995. I guarantee you will be shocked!

Go to their site 'Showroom' and check the box next to Make 'Rover' : https://www.hursleyhillgarage.co.uk/vehicle/usedvehicles

Maybe he has had offer and realised he needs to put the price up to stop potential customers?

As has been discussed numerous times he will be lucky to ever sell that.

14 years, more like.

In that specification, pretty much exactly the same asking price now as the official MGR catalog price when it was built in September 2004, not that they would have paid anything like that figure, of course.

Hi David. My friend Richard Munslow bought the ZTT V8 from Beech Hill Garage on Wednesday. The Rover V8 was still there... Thanks, Barry. Saw on Wednesday that the ZT-T was sold. Noticed it almost by accident, when checking some detail about their R75V8 on the Beech Hill Garage's own site. Car & Classic were still running that ZT-T ad up until yesterday evening.

... I see our friend at Hurley Hill has Raised his Price? ... Quite a few cars were increased in price when showrooms and forecourts started to open up in June. Trying to compensate for lost revenue during the lockdown, I assume! Can't see that it has helped a lot, the majority still being for sale. I think the guys at Hursley Hill SMG have a taken it to the extreme! Lets see what happens to the 2k miles R75V8 to be auctioned on the 26th (See: https://www.two-sixties.co.uk/mgoc260/html/f0rum/showthread.php?13272-Complete-List-of-260s-FOR-SALE&p=188407#post188407).

WOW.Wonder how many Bidded for it.
Difficult to say. I registered and watched the whole auction up to the R75V8 on streaming video. Prices were very strong across the board again. I saw 3 internet bidders and I think there was at least one commision bidder for the Rover. The hammer actually fell at £17,000 (unsold), so the sale was obviously the result of sanctioned post-auction negotiations between seller and bidder(s). Not clear if the stated £19,244 included the 10% or 11% buyer's fee or not.

Edit (David): Looks like that is 17,000 + internet-buyer fees + VAT on fees.

News to me, Ross. Which garage was that, do you recall? Never saw it advertised at any of the "regular watering holes".
Not confusing it with the 20 miles Platinum R75V8, #702, in Bristol are you, maybe? That one has been for sale for nearer 13 years though.

Thank you, for creating my account at the Two-Sixties!
The MG ZT 260 SE in British Racing Green offered in Portugal is no longer available (I think since April 2021). FS Automóveis told me yesterday the MG ZT is sold. You can see it on the website of FS Automóveis as well.
I will look forward for a nother interesting offer (of an MG ZT or Rover 75 V8).

With best regards, Gordon

Thanks for that information, Gordon.
Both the 'Complete List of 260s FOR SALE' and the '... SOLD in 2021' list have now been updated.

The FS site still show it as For Sale (MG ZT260 V8 | FS Automóveis (fsautomoveis.com) (https://fsautomoveis.com/en/viaturas/mg-zt260-v8/)) and it doesn't appear in their "Cars Sold" section either. Pity that sites like that often go without being updated for months!

It's only £4k. Almost worth looking into bringing it back to the UK.

SteveIn January 2019 #819, a Raven Black R75V8, came up for sale in Pretoria at only few hundreds more. Appears to be the "market price" for R75V8's in South Africa. I did find out what importation and transport to the UK would cost and believe me it would NOT be worth it. Vehicle cost @ £4,000, ~£4,000 container sea-transport, port handling fees (both ends), costs of registration, 10% duty and UK VAT on all of that... and then fixing the MIL light to get it MOT'd.

Fanciful ideas of driving one back (like Richard Hammond did with an Opel Kadett B), came out as massively more expensive than a container, and highly dangerous!

David

Yes I came to the same conclusion getting it back. I know someone who brought an Escort MK1 with a low mileage and in immaculate condition from South Africa, the costs to get it back exceeded what he had paid for the car and if it had been a lesser vehicle he would have been out of pocket.

Price reductions aren't normally worthy of mention on the Forum except that this one in Germany is maybe of note. VIN #867, a RHD Rover 75 V8 in Germany was just reduced by just over 50% from Euro 19,999 to Euro 9,999. At Euro 19,999 the car had been for sale in Germany now for 18 months.
Desperate seller? Maybe just realistic, since virtually no cars are moving in Germany at the moment
https://www.two-sixties.co.uk/mgoc260/html/f0rum/showthread.php?13272-Complete-List-of-260s-FOR-SALE&p=200748#post200748

This particular car, an ex-diplomatic car destined for Malaysia, was later owned by member 'GMTA' in Holland, who tried unsuccessfully to sell the car for over a year, finally dropping to below Euro 5000. Once sold to Germany it was immediately advertised at Euro 19,999, a huge mark up I think you will agree.
https://www.two-sixties.co.uk/mgoc260/html/f0rum/showthread.php?18610-Rover-75-V8-VIN-867-for-sale

When owned by member GMTA, I looked at buying it myself, for SWBO who loves my 75 V8, and easy to view being only 8km from where I live in Holland, but the costs of a new ECU to solve the EVAP codes, 4 Vortexes with proper size tyres, and bumper/grille to replace the Roewe one put me off. I suspected other problems could well be lurking too. Biggest factor was that it was RHD, which meant that my wife gave the idea the thumbs down. Anyway 2 R75V8s on the drive is a bit gross. His and hers V8s for two OAPs to boot!

Whopping reduction in Germany (again).

It has happened again today. Another Rover 75 V8 in Germany has been halved in price. Also Black coincidentally, and also previously advertised at a tad under 20,000 Euro. Now for 9,990. The previous car a month ago was a RHD, so maybe more understandable. This is not, and therefore one of only 36 LHD R75V8 saloons made and very rare and normally "desirable". https://www.two-sixties.co.uk/mgoc260/html/f0rum/showthread.php?13272-Complete-List-of-260s-FOR-SALE&p=200678#post200678

It looks like or cars are be "downgraded" in the modern-classic market-place from the heady heights of prices being asked in the last yar or so in Germany. The fact that no cars appear to be moving at all abroad is however perhaps a sign of the times generally and an equally likely reason. The ZT260, is not (yet) 'discounted' in Germany, but the German 260 market, is also totally dead as it is here in Holland, and perhaps even in France? I fear that the UK may not be far behind, and a price slump cannot be ruled out. The current UK market is certainly very 'slack'.

A good friend who deals in classic is finding at the moment a lot of stuff that traditionally would have flown out of the showroom is not moving unless it has a Ford badge on it and is sporty. Even E types are struggling to fetch 80% of what they were 12 months ago even if perfect. Anything tatty is not even getting a look at. He has even been offered cars from other dealers at well below trade prices.
