Hi everyone,
I am in the process of trying to sell my 1976 mgb to fund the purchase of a 260 and I thought I would post on here to see if anyone is interseted in doing a swap.
The car is an American import. It was imported in 1999 and was converted to right hand drive by the garage that imported it, I have been the only owner since. I am only selling as the car has seen little use since my son has been born ( 3 people in a 2 seater car just doesn't work)
If anyone is interested contact me and I can give more information.

Thanks for reading

Simon

Hi Simon,

Let me have some more info on the 'B' like what condition it's in and how much work has been carried out to maintain it?

Regards,

Big Frank.

Hi frank,

The car has had plenty of maintenance in my ownership, i have only covered 10,000 miles since I bought it in 1999 it has always been garaged. Here is a list of work I have carried out.

Rear axle, brake servo + discs, shoes and pads all round, new wheels, superflex bushes fitted, electronic fuel pump, overdrive gearbox, clutch, weber carb, aldon distributor, spax shock absorbers front and rear also the lowering kit as well. The engine was stripped down this year due to a worn camshaft so has been flushed out and fully rebuilt. I also have receipts for other minor works but too much to list.
The engine has been tuned and now runs better than at anytime during my ownership. It passed its mot 2 weeks ago so has almost 12 months and being a 1976 car it is tax free from next year

I don't know how to upload pictures but here is a link to the advert of the car on car and classic. If you would like more pictures pm me your email address and I can send you some more

Thanks

I am waiting for the aa at the min, I think one of the pulleys on the engine has seized which has caused the belt to smoke, lucky I stopped before the belt snapped.

The aa have been out and it's the air conditioning compressor seized. So i will have to source a new one. Is there a way of routing the belt without the air con just so I can get it running again?

Thanks

i may be totally wrong but if you route the belt the correct way but don't use the aircon you might be ok??

Either make sure ECON is displayed on the heater control or better still just switch it off

good luck

Don't know about a belt "avoiding" the airco-pulley, but I think not.

When you come to sourcing the replacements, it looks like you will need compressor and the pulley/clutch unit. Obtaining the latter separately is difficult and or expensive. So you need to go for a compressor with pulley if possible. If no one on the forum can help you there, there is always RockAuto (www.rockauto.com (http://www.rockauto.com). Search the catalog under Ford/Mustang GT/2001 (or 2002)/4.6l ) You should find several new or refurbished options there, with or without pulley. I just bought a Motorcraft YCC322 from them with pulley as did PeterV8 recently. Service is very fast and prices are, I think, very good. Common advice is always to change the condenser with seals at the same time for which Jules (Julian@jmacars.co.uk or www.jmacars.co.uk (http://www.jmacars.co.uk)) is probably your best bet. He is the accepted airco/cooling-heating-system guru! A new TXV valve is MAYBE a good idea, depending on how much trash got into the system if the compressor itself has self destructed or not. It is cheap, however difficult/expensive to fit. A new serpentine belt would sound sensible after what happened.

Best of luck!

Maybe better to pull the plug of the compressor, de-tension the belt and see if the pulley spins smoothly and silently by hand. It should.

(edit...) if it doesn't, then the clutch unit of the pulley is probably trashed. If it is "graunchy" or stiff then the clutch or bearing are AWOL or about to become so.

To detention the belt, a 3/8" square socket wrench on the pulley arm #7 on the diagram.

Hopefully all parts have been ordered, compressor, condenser and new serpentine belt. Hopefully the parts might be here for the weekend.
I have returned my questionnaire so hopefully I will be green soon.

When mine went a few years ago I took my car to Compressortech in Warwick (http://www.compressortech.co.uk/service_dept.html). I was back there just last week for a regas. They know the 260 very well, especially Mark, their service guy, who worked at Longbridge.
