Hi Groupies,

How long, in your opinion and experiences, should a 75 bodyshell last?

The reason I ask is that the father of a work colleague had a 2002 plate 75 diesel. He reckons that it rotted out within 9 years -sills, suspension wheel arches etc. Is it known that Rover at that time had too much unsold stock "weathering" in outside conditions/storage?

Don't think so Kev. I have a 02 75 and its got no corrosion to speak of.

Unusual for rust in our bodies.
Has it been repaired and not sealed properly?

My Rover 75 is Y reg and no rust. Were the bodies not galvanised? I thought I read that somewhere

I have read articles that have said the bodies were galvanised and don't rot unless there has been badly repaired, and have not yet read an article claiming they rot. But subframes and brackets do suffer from surface rust, which can be arrested by a coating of rust protection fluid.

Thanks for the feedback. I was talking to another 02 owner a couple of days ago and he also had little in the way of corrosion (except some n/s rear battle damage left unrepaired).

So, it looks like this shell is basically up to a good level and shouldn't be the target of scorn.
