Hi dudes, only had the 260 for a couple of months and its been sat in the garage waiting for plate change! But all legal now so took her out today and what a car and what a noise! But my question is how easy is it to remove the sub frames as i can see some surface rust, so i thought take them off and powder coat them ( as i have this facility) how long does it take to remove them?

Welcome, different user name than on the OC I see.

Subframe probably couple of hours work to get off and the a few more for stripping and getting ready for powder coating.

Well spotted that man ( not many biomorphic v8's ) yeah its just going to be laid up over winter so thought it would be a good idea.

Hi Keith, nice to see you over here, when you return your questionnaire to Tim and become a full member there is quite a bit of info about subframes?

Pretty rare colour.................nice.

What's the VIN?

Subframe with everything attached is not difficult to remove from the car

But getting the bits off the subframe to powdercoat it might be a pain. I know Nick at Austin's did a few, Merl's included and trying to get the items stripped off the subframe was a real job but I would guess that would go for any car a few years old

Am I correct in thinking that the subframes also rust on the inside due to the holes/condensation ?
Powder coating would only cover the outside. Would a dipping process (zinc galvanising?) be better ?

I think this has been discussed before and as galvanising is a hot process there where concerns of distortion, I still think the best method is plenty of waxoyl or similar inside and out every year

You can now get cold Zinc coating, www.frost.co.uk (http://www.frost.co.uk) do it..

Keith,

Where are you based?

Are we talking front or rear frame or both?

Have to drop my engine/gearbox/front frame very soon so am thinking about this sort of work (to both front/rear).

Can you post who will do the work and for round figure in readies?
