Hi, This is my first post on this forum & it is for my brother who owns a Mk1 260 Se. His car is ill at the moment & i suspect the alternator is the culprit. What is the availability of said item & does any one have any alternative part numbers to the oe one.

Many thanks
Steve.

Original and Replacement Part Numbers:

The original number you require is:

XPART No: YLE000320

The Motorcraft number is:

CY XR3U-AC 30 8:26 19

OR

CY XR3U-AC 02011623

I suspect the final numbers are irrelevant its the XR3U-AC that is the Motorcraft Number. CY is also Visteons version number I believe, these seem to be available from the States for like $80-$100.

Hope this helps, (taken from the Forum INDEX).

I always used Rodley Motors http://rodleymotors.co.uk/parts-service-recovery-mot-leeds-bradford/ when I was running a Mustang and found them very good. :)

However, if you need one quickly, Brown and Gammons are showing stock! http://www.ukmgparts.com/product.aspx?CID=0E22B8EC-0CF7-463E-AD82-D76AA6F3E538&SID=0E22B8EC-0CF7-463E-AD82-D76AA6F3E538&PID=520d1068-eccd-46b9-944d-1a31579221b2

At £210 at B&G it's about £80 more expensive than Real Steel.....seems a lot for express service :)

Hi Steve
Have you thought of taking the alternator down to your local Auto-lekie
They may be able to repair or rebuild it for you for a lot less
After all what are we talking about, brushes, diodes, bearings
My own auto-lekie has a test machine that looks like it was designed and built by Michael Faraday.
It does the business however, and over some years they have repaired several alternators for me
On one occasion they rebuilt the alternator using the guts of another that I got from a scrapyard

Also I have seen a site that sells complete repair kits for alternators, in US I think
Can't remember what it's called. Perhaps others could help
Best of luck

Dave if you could find that site which sells those components that would be great, as if and when mine goes i will certainly repair it if possible.Perhaps it could be put in the How To Site here.

Just a quick update to say the car is now fixed. Thanks for the pointers, the guy from Rodley motors replaced the faulty alternator & the belt at the same time, my brother was very happy with the service from them.
I did think about getting it repaired but he was stuck with out the car but we have kept the old alternator & was going to look into getting it reconditioned.
Thanks again to everyone for the advice.

Ouch................Altenator at RealSteel £130. Belt another £25 or so. £155 in parts.

With £40 / hour it would have taken 3 hours to fit........

Then again.................needs probably must............

So not too bad then, especially when you take into account it was local (ish) and it was unlikely he could have driven the car anywhere else to get it done! :)

Still expensive given that it should take about 30mins to replace altenator and belt :) local or not

Even on a blown car we charge 30 mins, we keep a 260 and SV one in stock.
