Tractorpetes car is now on my drive. Thanks Pete, car is spot on. Owning this is going to be a lot of fun, although my other half is less than convinced!

OMG, what have I done? (http://www.flickr.com/photos/giveitfish/6953582572/) by giveitfish (http://www.flickr.com/people/giveitfish/), on Flickr

As a new owner I now have a couple of newbie questions if anyone can help?

- How do I find out what colour code/name it is?

- The Pony badge on the throttle body is missing. Pete kindly supplied me a throttle body he had, does anyone know how the badge is glued on and how to remove it to swap over without damaging it?

- Could anyone recommend a trusted specialist in West Yorkshire for my future servicing needs?

Cheers!

Stephen

PS. Anyone want to buy my RX8? It like the anti-260. Same 0-60, same 0-100, same mpg, same rear legroom (seriously), also has Eibach/Bilstein suspension developed with Prodrive, but is SO different in approach :-)

Hi Stephen' welcome along. The paint code should be on a label on the n/s passenger door pillar. The pony badge is glued on to the throttle body, warm it up with a hair dryer and carefully lift, easy to damage so a lot of care needed.
Happy motoring.

Nich.

It should be on the badge on the b-pillar N/S

Just leave it or switch the complete throttle body

Linden is in Huddersfield, also a member on here.
Many good reviews from members here

Cheers!

switch the complete throttle body

Good idea Herman, why didn't I think of that?

Cheers guys. Pete suggested I just swap the body too but I'm no spanner man so I'm cautious about swapping bits on a perfectly good engine! Is it a simple bolt-on job?

You can always keep the bonnet closed and no one will know :)

Swapping the TB is easy. Just be careful not to damage the gaskets on the EGR and IAC (the two lumps that bolt on to the TB)

If it's a choice between damaging something and keeping the bonnet shut, I'll leave the bonnet shut lol.

I'll have a proper look tomorrow, thanks for the advice.

Welcome :)

Everybody else has pointed you in right directions already :)

Linden in Huddersfield is your man and could swap the throttle body over too probably as he has fitted super chargers ;)

We will definitely have to plan a northern meet now!

Think that's the best policy. Really pleased for you - I know it's a lovely car. So we both got our cars on the same weekend. look forward to meeting you sometime at a 260 meet.

Cheers Ric, yes very pleased. A couple of minor cosmetic issues but they're really nothing much and the interior is absolutely perfect - amazing for the miles and age.

The Pony is sorted too lol. Boiling water and careful use of a knife on the spare throttle body got it off then I stuck it on the body already installed on the engine. No nuts or bolts touched!

Well done and welcome to the collective and as others have said, Linden is your man for servicing.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Glad the colour is BRG pearlescent as that's the colour of the touch-up kit I took a punt on in Halfords on Sunday :-) I think it might end up with RAF roundels on it for Le Mans weekend in a couple of months time...

I've found one more similarity with the RX8 - the tyres are the same size, so I can use my existing spare set of Vredestein winters when the time comes.

After a good look around the car I'm thrilled with the spec. It's an SE with memory on the drivers seat (always wanted this as I'm very fussy about my seating position!) and Harmon Kardon hi-fi. Pete even threw in a spare wheel with a decent tyre on it. The only missing options I'm aware of are the rear blind and power folding mirrors and they're no loss.

Looks like it did a lot of m-way miles for the first 4 years of it's life, followed by a few years as a garage queen. This fits in with the un-worn interior and resprayed front bumper. It's done about 10k since 2008, which I'll soon put right lol.

It had new rear springs in 2010. Possibly had the fuel thingy done too, but I guess I'd better check.

The only problem I've found (now the Pony is restored!) is that the only speakers that work are the ones in the drivers door. I'm guessing this is just a loose connector, possibly from having a phone kit installed at some point in the past. Will tease the head unit out and check tomorrow.

One more thing is it has mats with a "260" logo on, but the mat is a little too long and will foul the clutch/accelerator if I'm not careful. I might get some LHD mats from Rimmer Bros - would this help?

It's interesting, my drivers mat seems to be too long and catches on the clutch pedal too. Let me know if Rimmers offer alternative.

If it is an official 260 one it shouldn't do.... or mind doesnt...

Only thing I can think of is who ever fitted them didn't fit them all the way back as you screw the floor mat holder tabs into the carpet... Might be worth taking matts out and seeing how far back they are fitted and if you can re fit them better.

Millband

Cheers Merl. I don't think they're official 260 mats as they don't have the holes for the tabs.

When I say official I should really have said the club ones... The club ones had the mg logo with pony but with securing holes/tabs.

Unless they had other ones made or these were made up else where.... The club is looking at sourcing some more I have read on a thread somewhere so might be worth hanging fire for the mo.

I hopefully, will get some sourced in the next few days. If it ever stops raining I will go and get the template cut, the company has the 260 logo's so just need to negotiate the final discount for a bit of volume and away we go.

Will hopefully then give it to Colin to sell through the shop

Stephen

I have the club mats, although the drivers side is looking tired now. If you want to compare them with yours I'll be at an IAM promotional day on the road outside Carr Gate Garden Centre from 10:00 until about 16:00 this Sunday and will have my car with me.

I am and I blame it on my daughter. I got her to go in for it after she had more than her fair share of scrapes, the last one shook her up to the point she did not want to drive again. When she passed she said if I can do it you can so I had no choice really.

I'm helping with the promotion of the Institute of Advanced Motorists http://www.wakefieldiam.net/News/freedrivecheck (Hope that's not seen as blatant advertising, apologies if it is).

I might just do that Dave, and maybe go for a check drive too. Carr Gate is only a few minutes from me.

Just taken 3 mates on a 250 mile round trip to the Lakes today and the car was spot on. I've done 600 miles in the last week which is more than it did in the whole time tractorpete had it. It now needs cleaning again!

Nice meeting you today Stephen and a very nice looking motor you have. Sorry I didn't get much of a chance for a chat but things were a little hectic this afternoon. You will have to join us for one of the meets, watch out for the one in Harrogate 1st weekend in August. Hope the drive went well.

Nice meeting you too Dave, would love to have a ride in your car some time to compare with the base model!

The drive went well, was very interesting.
